    W10Privacy 5.1.0.0 – a threat?

    W10Privacy 5.1.0.0 – a threat?

    Hello all,

I use W10Privacy for some time and all this time it worked great. Few days ago I downloaded latest version - 5.1.0.0. When I try to install it my Windows Security icon’s badge in system tray goes from green to red color. When I go to Windows Security this is what I see:

Did anybody try the latest 5.1.0.0 version of W10Privacy?

BTW, Version 5.0.0.1 works fine and all previous versions worked fine.

    TIA

    I see:

    VirusTotal Report

I installed it and got the same warning from Defender. I'd say that advanced users can ignore the warning. It's one of those types of apps that could make unwanted changes to a user's system if they don't understand how to use it.

The problem is that I don't get Ignore option. I only get Quarantine or Remove options.
And even before I choose one of the two options Windows Defender disables W10Privacy.exe file.

Anyway Windows Defender has got a lot of configuration options so yours must be set differently to mine. I'm not expert on all available settings. I use configuredefender by andyful and turn off some protections.

Someone else wrote a program to gain more control so maybe experiment with that if you have a backup.

There's options to change default threat actions. I don't use this software.

My Windows 10 Education Edition doesn't have Defender, but has Windows Security, so I used this guide and it worked.

Add an exclusion to Windows Security

    Cheers.

All sorted then. Just an FYI. As far as I know "Windows Security" includes Windows Defender
