Your idea is correct. Infact I'm using Avira Premium + Malwarebytes. Complete protection.
    Read this independent test :

Avira is the top, Microsoft in the end
Avira do have very strong malware signatures, but still suffer the same protection issue as Windows Defender which it doesn't have zero day protection capability at all. And I prefer Windows Defender UI over outdated Avira UI.

Everyone, start using BitDefender Free and ditch Avira! Bitdefender free have zero day protection aka Active Threat Control, and this software is much better than Avira.

Several people have suggested ditching Avira and using something else until the "AVIRA BIG BUG SHAME" is fixed. Unfortunately some would rather continue complaining. SMH

    Hi,
For those users who still suffer from the disappeared Avira tray icon can check the following for troubleshooting:

    - Do you experience a delayed Windows boot up process?
    - Do you use any optimizer tools or other security software that might interfer?
    - Since when does it happen? What have been changed on the computer before the issue?
    - Which Avira processes are active in Task Manager? (avgnt.exe / avira.systray.exe)

Does the Avira icon appear again after starting the following program manually?

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Avira\Launcher\Avira.Systray.exe"

I had this problem a few times and i indeed have a delayed windows boot up process - what is the meaning of this if you care to explain?

For the rest: just disable the "avira system tray application" in autostart and you should have your icon back (this service seems to clash with avira connect that has this service integrated in itself already)
