    Repair/Malware program

What is a good repair/malware program to install? It can be free or purchased, as long as it does the job properly.

Malwarebytes - to install a free version that won't expire, just don't activate the 'free trial'. The fee version can do on-demand scans. If you want real time protection (beyond the 14 day trial) you'll need to pay.

    and Ccleaner is good too

I use the free versions of both.

    Hi, @Amadeus51:

In addition to the advice already offered...

We could probably better assist you with more specific recommendations if you could please provide a bit more detail about what you are trying to accomplish.

"Repair" program is a very broad term. What do you want to "repair"?

"Malware" program is a bit more specific, but we still need to know what you're looking for.
Are you looking for a manual, on-demand scanner to detect and remove malware already on the computer, or are you looking for a real-time anti-malware program to help prevent infection, alongside your anti-virus?
A wee bit more information would help us to better help you.

    Thanks,
    MM

I seem to have stability issues in my computer. I also have trouble loading some sites. Malware is always an issue, I need something reliable to detect and remove it. I don't know if I need one program or more than one. I had a program DL, but research as shown it to be unreliable.

That's not much information for us to go on.
As we are not in front of your computer, we cannot guess what "stability" and "malware" issues you are having.
(I do see that you have been infected in the past on this system and that you have had some recent hardware/video problems.)

    Let's start with the basics:

    1) Do you think you are now infected?

    2) If so, please describe in as much detail as you can the abnormal computer behavior that you are experiencing. (Exact words or screen shots of any error messages and the like can be extremely helpful.)

If you are infected, then getting that cleaned up probably needs to be the first priority. Malware cleanup may fix some of the "stability" issues, especially if they are not hardware-related.

    Thank you,
    MM

Here's the situation as it was. I had PCacceleratePro on the computer, but research showed it to be a problem so I removed it. I also have Reimage on the computer, but it scans and finds issues, but I haven't purchased it. Research also showed it to have problems. also listed is McAfee and Malwarebytes, but I'm not sure how effective either of those are. Reimage keeping listing stability issues and malware issues, including listing PCaccelerate as malware. Are any of those programs effective?

    Hi:

    PCacceleratePro: junkware/scareware, or worse

Reimage Repair: not much better; for basic computer users, such programs can cause more harm than good.

Many of your stability issues may be the result of having run these (and similar) programs, causing damage to the Windows OS. Without more data about your system, such as what -- if any -- real-time, legit security applications you have as well as other vulnerabilities, it's hard to know the extent of the damage. And it's possible you have live malware (or at least PUPs, junk, adware) on the system.

It sounds as if your system would benefit from a thorough checkup, cleaning and repair, guided by experienced helpers who know the *correct*, safe tools to run, in the correct order.
They can then recommend strategies to help prevent this sort of predicament in the future (security measures, safe computing, proper security applications, etc.).

Please wait for one of the more expert forum members to assist you.

    Thanks for your patience,

I've used the free version of Malwarebytes for several years. Then I spent the money and bought the Pro version. Scanning with the free version is manual. The pro version protects in real time. Between the Pro version and Kaspersky Internet Security, I haven't gotten any infection in a few years. I have ended up with PUPs though, mostly my fault for not paying attention.

    Hi, @Odos270:

Agree. MBAM Free is an excellent on-demand scanner to help CLEANUP certain types of malware.
MBAM Premium is even better, for its real-time protection to help PREVENT malware infection in the first place.
But no one tool can protect/clean 100% of malware from 100% of computers 100% of the time.
There are many other good, powerful tools to help with cleanup.
From the sound of it, the OP might need more extensive work, including customized scripts and/or repairs.

It's above my pay grade to provide formal malware removal advice or system repair advice.

So perhaps one of our other forum members will step in to guide @Amadeus51.

Spybot Search & Destroy used to be pretty good. Now it's bloatware. Has he tried sfc /scannow? Or Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth?
