Malwarebytes does not detect change in hosts file

I made a change in my hosts file myself, in order to block Google ads.
Windows Defender immediately gave a warning.
A scan with Malwarebytes free did not give any notice.
    Remarkable.

That's because it detects malware but not attempts to deprive internet publishers of their income.

    Hi:

Yes, MBAM is a specialized anti-malware tool designed to protect against certain types of (non-viral) zero-hour and zero-day malware, such as trojans and rootkits.
It is NOT an anti-virus and is not designed to replace an anti-virus or a firewall.
The Premium version is designed to run alongside a robust anti-virus to provide complementary protection against threats often missed by the anti-virus programs.
Hosts files modifications would be something better covered by your antivirus.

    Hope this helps,
    MM

I donot have problems with ads, if clearly discernible.
I do have problems, when ads and their links are embedded in the main text and are hardly discernible from the bodytext.

Thanks for this reaction. I did not realise this.
