Hi Jimbo,
McAfee is McAwful, and has pulled a major scam on the home pc people. I'm not sure why the computer companies deal with this guy/company. And I'm glad to hear that some thinks Windows Defender is enough. I've read that it's gotten better, and I think I'm going to stick with just that.
I'm not sure I'm ready to do a re-install just yet, but I will keep that in mind should I ever get to that point.
Thanks for your input.
Regards,
Patty
Hi David,
Thank you for taking the time to help. The first thing I tried on my own was to use Revo Uninstaller which first uses the program's uninstaller, then searches for files leftover. It found a lot of leftover files, but some files reappeared. The time and date of their last modification indicates that this occurred after the uninstall.
I tried using Take Ownership, and it still doesn't work. I cannot get access to those files. This is unbelievable. There should be some legal action against this company for pretending to sell an antivirus product when your product behaves like a virus.
Are you logged in as the Administrator on your computer Patty??? This would be one reason why the command did not work for you.
Click on Control Panel , then click on User Accounts, and see if you are logged in as the Administrator.
The Take Ownership DOES WORK ....but the user HAS to be logged in as the Administrator in order for that to work.
