If you have a lifetime license (which i have) & have version 2 installed (i didn't but just had a copy of version 2.x in my Software folder), first deactivate license on computer, uninstall version 2 using the MBAM Cleaner Tool (google for it) Then install version 3.0.5, imput your lifetime license & activate.

If you don't have any version of MBAM installed, download the version 3.0.5, install & activate using lifetime license. That's what i did with no issues.

Except...i was running version 3.0.4 & got pop-up that version 3.0.5 was available for install. Clicked on the install button & nothing happened - did it several times with no luck. Downloaded the latest version & installed over 3.0.4 with no issues...so far!

I'll remember your post thanks. But I'll wait for a fix from the devs before I try again.

    Hi:

No one expected the first 3.0 release build (which was really a beta build) to be perfect.

There are now more than 25 pages of trouble topics in the roughly 28 days since version 3.0 launched.
This does not include the 100s of "me, too!" replies in existing threads, or topics in other forum sections, or Help Desk tickets. Many of these come from long-time users joining the forum for the first time, just to report trouble with 3.0.
These are not minor or cosmetic issues.
They include problems with real-time protection modules, inability to install/uninstall/upgrade, **system** performance issues, crippling CPU consumption, scan failures, compatibility problems with a range of security and productivity apps, and a host of other stability issues. (The current public list barely scratches the surface.)
There is still no proper removal tool for 3.0 and no "mbam-check" utility for 3.0, further complicating troubleshooting.
(For example, some users are being asked to run custom FRST scripts just to be able to uninstall/update.)

Even more troubling, however, has been the unimpressive, nonchalant, and inconsistent response from qualified staff members or management. The few staff members who have tried to deal with the flood are doing their best.
In my long time experience with Malwarebytes' products, the lack of response from company leadership is a disturbing, new development.

"The Holidays" does not suffice as an excuse. It was a bad time to launch a brand new, unstable product, if there was insufficient staff coverage to deal with the consequences. Even if no one expected version 3.0 to be so terribly broken, it was a poor decision, the reasons for which we can only speculate. Management ought to have stepped up to fill in.
"They're working on it" no longer suffices, either. 100s of users have submitted diagnostic logs in the past 4 weeks, in a good-faith effort to help the company fix this broken software.
"Works for me" replies from well-meaning forum volunteers (some with a financial interest in the product) do not accomplish anything, except perhaps to further anger users who are already tired and frustrated.

Yet, despite early promises back in December of multiple updates "throughout the rest of the year", there has been only 1 patch build. For many users, it did not fix the primary issue it was supposed to fix. One can only surmise that the problems may be proving harder to fix than anticipated.

I likewise reiterate the concerns about the "AV replacement" claims and the lack of outside testing.
Even on systems where version 3.0 seems to be "working", we do not yet have credible data to support that.
It may be running and scanning without problems, but there's no way to know if it lives up to protection claims.
Nor can I fathom how anyone could fully trust this unstable version, especially as "sole protection".

As a long-time paid user and supporter of the product, the company and its people, I am deeply troubled by current events. I never expected Malwarebytes to release with such hyperbolic fanfare such a flawed product. I expected even less to see such a weak response from management to what is clearly a seriously deficient coding, testing and QA process.

I fervently hope that this mess will be turned around soon, before Malwarebytes' sterling reputation and brand suffer more damage.
We all want to be able to trust a terrific product that lives up to basic performance, stability, compatibility and protection expectations.
We all want to be able to continue to recommend Malwarebytes security products to others.

    Fingers crossed for the best,
    MM

Fully agree MM, I'm a long time/Lifetime license user of MBAM & have had problems with the new version, in my case I've been logged into a temporary profile several times, constantly getting a 'protection turned off' message on startup & as for the claim it's a AV replacement I'm sceptical. I've noticed that it is listed as such under security & there's a warning about having two AV active at the same time, I can't help wondering if this is where some of the problems stem from.

This is actually an early preview release rather than a final release

And its still coming up with the mbae64.sys error.

I won't be trying MBAM 3 again for some time. I had many problems including BSODs when Web protection was enabled on the prior build of this box (Core i7 920), and MBAM support pointed at a possibly corrupt OS or Shadow Defender being a problem. I uninstalled Shadow Defender and argued that the OS was not the culprit and have not heard from them since.

Immediately upon putting this Skylake together I installed MBAM 3, went on the Net and was met with a BSOD as Web protection was enabled. Disabled it and all was fine. I'm back to 2.2 and MBAE and will keep an eye on 3.0 progress but want the trouble free experience I've always had with MBAM in the past. With their "Suite" and Win 10 updates I have my doubts that will be possible.
