    Hi:

Yes, I fully understand and concur with having user control.
I am very disappointed to see that they are hacking away at that, compared to previous versions.

Having said that, messing around with the "services" is liable at some point to create instability or performance problems.
It's certainly not something anyone would recommend or that their people would support.
If it breaks the program, you're pretty much on your own.
If you're OK with that, then that's more than OK with me.
    I just point it out.

I agree with almost everything you have said MM. :) Except for turning the Malwarebytes Service from Auto to Manual, that is where we don't agree, as it should not affect how MB3 runs at all. There should be NO instability or performance problems or issues at all. :) Time will tell me if it does anyhow. :)

Not sure I like it because it has to be running in order for MBAE to be active. Will MBAE continue to run when the trail period is over? I may go back to the older version until they've ironed out the probs. Seriously, give us a choice to turn off the trial & go to free.

One odd behavior I have noted, it seems to interact with NoScript somehow. A couple of sites I normally go to would not load because NoScript blocked them with ABE. When MBAM is turned off, those pages load fine.

    What's ABE?

For now I have it turned off & will run a scan later. I was going to let it run a scan while I went out but I have a feeling I should probably be here to babysit it, just in case.
When you turn off MB3 Borg, if you look in your Task Manager, you will see that Malwarebytes Service is still running, at least it was on my computer. When I turn MB3 OFF .....I want it completely OFF .....now it is. :)

    Hi:

There's been an ongoing issue for several weeks between the MBAE module, 64-bit browsers, and certain 3rd-party AVs (especially Kaspersky).
AFAIK It was still unresolved before they shipped Beta 3 as the release version.
AFAIK it is not fixed yet, as I see new reports today.

I don't know if that might be what you're seeing?

Bugs like this probably ought to be reported at their forum, so that the devs and QA team can work on it.
RFFs and requests to restore features and functions that have been removed probably ought to be reported there, too.
Perhaps, if enough customers speak up, they will make some changes.

I'm not sure that's the case.
Without knowing in detail what mbamservice does "under the hood" in the new program with its new architecture, it would be speculation.

All I can say is that after nearly 7 years and 23K posts at their forum, I'm confident that doing so is not recommended or supported.
In past versions, changing settings for the services outside the GUI often resulted in problems.
Aside from defeating the purpose of having MBAM Premium, installing and running MBAM Free is an easier, more direct way to run the program only as a manual, on-demand scanner.

I'm not a developer or a coder. I do not work for Malwarebytes.
So, that's all I'm going to say on this, offered "as is" and in good faith.
I fully concur with having user control and I understand the desire to tweak in unsupported ways to suit individual choices.
But I cannot provide any further advice on that particular bit.

    Cheers,

    MM

I know MM, and I respect your opinion very much!!! I also have been running Malwarebytes since it 1st came out, at least for me...7 years too. I have 2 lifetime license's myself. I can't remember exactly how long I've been running MB, time flys by too quickly these days. :)
I am working right now with one of MB's tech's thru emails since yesterday on the bugs/issues I have found. Think soon there will be a new update released......we will see....

Already checked the running processes & made sure it was off. It seems a bit draconian, but then for most users that's a good thing assuring it's doing it's job. I noticed just disabling it in msconfig doesn't do the trick, it comes right back on. I had to go in deeper in the settings to assure it was fully off when booting.

I installed ver 3 free. I can't get it to save the settings. It always goes back to default. This morning update has been running for 45 min.

I did not touch msconfig Borg, I went into service's and changed it from Auto to Manual startup, that is the best way I believe. Then in MB3 click on Turn off in settings. (at windows startup) Works best this way....so far. :)

Oh I don't just use msconfig, I also use Autoruns to monitor/control things on my PC. But I found it interesting that MBAM overrode the msconfig, but no doubt this is a safety feature as most malware will try to disable scanners.

I did not use a 3rd party app, used services to just switch it from AUTO to Manual ....like to use Windows built-in controls, when they work correctly. :)
