In the new version Malwarebytes is enforcing the License on their keys and you may get this window if your key has been identified with a problem. I got this on the first Lifetime key I bought years ago and it had been moved around a lot so I got flagged. I did choice 2 and I now have a new Lifetime key.]
The biggest changes in this release are around license enforcement. You'll now see messaging in the product when you're approaching your subscription expiration date.
Also, we're running a new "Amnesty key" program in an attempt to get a handle on the rampant piracy of MBAM keys that exists. If we detect a key during the upgrade to 2.1.7 that is one of the keys that has been identified as being abused, counterfeit, pirated, etc. then the user will be presented with a special screen in the MBAM UI. They'll select one of two options and then be assigned a new key to use going forward. We can't just fully turn off all these keys because there are legitimate users caught up in the mess. (for example, they were victims of unscrupulous resellers who sold them a bad key--this is not the user's fault and we don't want to penalize them) The Amnesty program is purely temporary - maybe a few weeks or so, or however much time we need as we roll out this new version. Then after that it will be shut down and all the bad keys will cease to work. We're not worried about giving pirates a free key - the goal is to stop any further exploitation of all the keys that are out there. This program allows us to get a handle on these issues and lets us track the new keys in our system. The keys will only allow a certain number of activations (depending on whether annual or lifetime) and after that limit is reached no further activations can occur on that key. You may see questions about this in the forum, but legitimate users should simply answer the prompt honestly and they'll be fine. Anyone who see this message WILL get a new key assigned though so they should make a note of it for their records. You'll see below that the key is now visible on the My Account screen.

I read your quote as well but as others mentioned the main download page isn't even providing version 2.1.7. I am also receiving a prompt on one computer notifying me my program version is out of date (current version 2.1.6.1022) but on another computer running exact same license with exact same program version I am not! When I attempt to manual update on computer not receiving prompt it implies current version is latest.
While I appreciate all the hard work you folks put forth at Malwarebytes you must understand from an end user perspective how the above activity appears. How do I know for instance the one computer prompting me to update my program version isn't hijacked with a newer undetected virus of some kind? The answer is you don't know and it is really encouraging to research the matter on your forum and witness an administrator not providing more details or answering end users questions more thoroughly especially after people reiterate with confusion.
Technically an explanation by definition is a statement or account which makes something clear. No question your explanation isn't clear because as others stated that doesn't answer their questions. Your explanation directs them to a dead end with no resolution but then again you knew that didn't you? It is a lot like a traffic cop directing people on a detour over a cliff.
