Actually the default for MB 4 is on - which is how it disables Defender.

Why would MB wan't to disable Defender?
For years they worked together as it should be.
If I remember correctly they did this when 3.8 was released.
I always run MB with "never register with the Action Center"

I suppose the newest version does a lot more that Defender does, but I can ask for specifics in the forums there if you like.

I installed MB 4, defender got disabled but Always register was off. They have always worked happily together up till now. If that is no longer true then I'll drop back to MB 3.

Yes, and you installed it over 3.x

if you clean installed it that setting it enabled. Hence why it seems as if that setting is disabled but still it disabled Defender. Which is why I suggested that you enable, reboot, then disable it again to get the SxS functionality back, rather than having to deactivate your license, uninstall MB 4, reboot, install MB 4, disable that setting, and then reactivate your license.

Not following you. As far as I can tell, all is well now. Defender is running and happy and did an auto scan last night. MB 4 is scheduled to scan at 2:09AM (according to the it's own info display).

What SxS functionality am I missing or is not working? Are you talking about WinSxS? I don't mind doing what you suggest, just want to understand why it is necessary.

Just guessing, but I think John was using that as shorthand for Defender and MBAM running together, in tandem, happy with each other, and not throwing up on each other. SxS.... side-by-side.
