The only "detections" I have gotten were from the other Malwarebytes program, AdwCleaner, and those were just random stuff like the search engines in chrome (Ask, I think). It did have one FP which was Wise Disk Cleaner, which they have fixed.

That's pretty well true. I never had any serious infections I couldn't deal with but had to fight them on other peaple's computers. I also have offline backups but average user is not that cautious. There's also leftovers in many old SW and downloads. I have some USBs to deal with much of the stuff, not least important with Linux to first save what is savable and than try to do cleanup but most of the time a clean install is best way.

Only you can answer that question. My recommendation is that you keep it as a second opinion scanner for when you might need it. It's not gonna take up any resources when you're not running it. Malwarebytes also have a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox, if you trust the company with access to your browsing data. You could consider using that for additional Web protection.

I've tried that extension in Firefox, but had issues with it hanging the browser. That was a couple of FF builds ago, I may try it again. It's still Beta, since last August.

I don't have any issues in 66b6 with it. I have never bothered to post at the MB forums about this.... but I have MB with the real time web protection active... do I really need the extension or is that for free MB users mainly?

Hello Dick, I've not tried that extension myself. Presently, I'm giving the one from Emsisoft a shot. I don't know how effective it is but I like their privacy-oriented approach.

Professional versions for LAN's (corporate) etc are still necessary -- all sorts of other stuff applies e,g Denial of service attacks, ransomware etc. But Home computers -- no longer necessary -- who's going to spend a lot of time and effort in creating a Denial of service on some miserable sub teens bedroom home computer or some 84 year old grandma!!!!

I disagree. I have protection built into my router, and I can tell you, I see the Intrusion Detection working constantly. There are malicious-intent auto scans all over the web that are constantly looking for backdoor access, trying to run remote command execution shell scripts, attempting to insert ransomware, etc., including DDoS attacks. Not a day goes by that there hasn't been at least 1 attack on my router.

Windows Defender is getting better all the time. But, Malwarebytes has always been one of the best. There's something to be said for that.

I've been using MBAM browser extension since it first launched. It has blocked some stuff including downloads.
