I let it upgrade thinking I could rescue the situation if needed. However it did upgrade and seems ok. Will advise if anything adverse becomes of this.

I posted up to Malwarebytes forum and received this:
    Hi all—
Just wanted to let everyone know that we’ve started pushing out a new component package update. You should receive this automatically if you are running 3.0.5 or 3.0.6. *We are metering these updates out, so you may not receive yours immediately.
If you prefer, you may download any install our "updated" mb3-setup-consumer-3.0.6.1469-1075.exe*installer from this link. *This installer is posted and available from our main website. *If you already have an earlier version of Malwarebytes 3.0.5 or 3.0.6 installed, we recommend that you uninstall the old version first and then install this newer version (please make a note of your key before doing so). *

I did test try the 3 series when it came out so I have to assume an updater or reg entry was left over when I went back to 2.

    FYI...

New MB 3 Beta released It is 3.0.6.1468 - 1.0.96. It is also call 3.0.6 CU 4.
    Download Link : https://malwarebytes.app.box.com/s/h...v1clb6nlh3p1qk

We have another component package update coming out soon and we wanted to provide the opportunity for you to test it out before we release the final version. Please note, this BETA version should not be installed by anyone running Windows Vista 64-bit. There;s an issue that we're working on with Vista x64, so for now you should simply skip this beta.

    • Fixed Bad Pool Header BSOD while web browsing (in majority of cases)
    • Fixed issue that could cause user to have to login with a temporary profile instead of their standard user profile
    • Additional enhancements to improve memory usage
    • Fixed issue where 3.0.5 could revert to version 3.0.0 in certain conditions
    • Fixed numerous crashes, including service crashes
    • Addressed several vulnerabilities
    • The Web Protection block page now redirects to https://block.malwarebytes.com
    • Fixed issue where Web Protection would not re-enable properly after booting back from minimal safe mode on Vista

A couple people over at MB Forum tried to install the 3.0.6.CU 4 Beta over the top of 3.0.6 release version and system asked for a restart to uninstall a "program". They did a restart and they were not updated.
They removed 3.0.6 and did a clean install of this Beta.

I received a message also, it said the previous version of the program (MBAM) was not fully removed.
It gave a choice of restarting now or later, chose restart now.

The old version was still installed after the restart, ran the installer again, it finished with no
    problem this time.

Exactly . One thing I did notice..... On first try to install the new package, it came up almost instantaneously with the message to restart. Like it didn't really do much at all. Thought it was odd.

But, all installed now. Let's see if it can consistently fire up all 4 protections on start, and keep them up! :)

Hello. Windows Defender did something nasty to my machine and now I cannot access the Internet through any browser although my system shows I have connection. Just get the nutty "This webpage is not available" with "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN"....
