By the by, even when set to the free version, the scan is still much, much faster than version 2's!
For all you tweakers and fiddlers out there who are working so hard to get MB3 Premium to behave like the Free version, there's a much easier way: install the Free version.
The whole point of Premium is the real-time protection to help prevent infection.
Running it as only a manual, on-demand scanner defeats the purpose of the paid version.
If you are having compatibility issues with your other, real-time security apps, that's a very valid concern.
I suggest reporting those at their forum, so that QA can address them.
The company insists that version 3 will run side-by-side with a real AV.
So they need to work to ensure that the product lives up to that claim.
As far as whether MB3 really is an "AV" or just an "AV replacement" (as they claim), or neither of those, one of their own forum experts recently posted THIS.
Until AV comparatives and other outside testing confirms that MB3 performs well head-to-head against longstanding, reputable, high-performing, fully-flagged AVs as SOLE protection, then the claims of "AV replacement" seem only to be marketing taglines.
And even the company does not claim that MB3 is an "AV".
Their niche has always been largely non-viral malware.
They have added anti-exploit and anti-ransomware.
But they have not said much/anything at all about true "anti-virus" capability.
(Unfortunately, this fancy wording about "AV replacement" does not seem to have prevented a significant number of compatibility problems with real AVs. Time will tell...)
Another question: can/should one trust a single application as sole real-time protection, no matter how good it is? That flies in the face of the longstanding recommendation for complementary, layered protection. A single program that claims to do it all is NOT layered or complementary protection. "Layers" connotes at least two different applications...
I, too, hope that the new product will someday soon live up to the hype, hopefully before the company mothballs their stable, flagship product.
Cheers,
MM
P.S. I've never understood the obsession with "scan times". There is often -- at a deeply technical level -- a trade-off between scan times and scan depth/thoroughness (especially for rootkits, etc.). On a robust, modern system, scans do not consume a noticeable portion of resources. And -- properly configured -- a scheduled scan runs silently in the background from the system account. And they can be scheduled to run at a time when the system is not under heavy use. So, I really don't care if a scan takes 3 minutes or 5 minutes or 12 minutes. I want it to be thorough.
ALSO: because of disk-caching, subsequent scans under the same Windows user session will always be faster than the first scan under that session. That has been the case since version 1. Nothing new there.
Guess you might be mis-understanding me MM, the way I am running my MB3 Premium Version is EVERYTHING is ON and working, including real-time protection <----- !!!! Nothing is NOT running on my MB3 .... When I turn it ON.
When I turn it off.......Everything is off ..... Its just that simple. :)
