Locking down your browser and having some smarts about browsing will keep it that way Count. The age of actual virus' and things of that nature is dead and gone. Most of the "baddies" now are money grab schemes, like coin miners etc. If I had to buy it year to year, most likely I would have the free version of MB as well. I have a lifetime license, so I disable WD and only run MB with all protections active.

The only "detections" I have gotten were from the other Malwarebytes program, AdwCleaner, and those were just random stuff like the search engines in chrome (Ask, I think). It did have one FP which was Wise Disk Cleaner, which they have fixed.
That's pretty well true. I never had any serious infections I couldn't deal with but had to fight them on other peaple's computers. I also have offline backups but average user is not that cautious. There's also leftovers in many old SW and downloads. I have some USBs to deal with much of the stuff, not least important with Linux to first save what is savable and than try to do cleanup but most of the time a clean install is best way.

Tnx, I finally caught up with all of tat, now the only question is weather I need it or not. Didn't have any problems for it to solve in long time now.
Only you can answer that question. My recommendation is that you keep it as a second opinion scanner for when you might need it. It's not gonna take up any resources when you're not running it. Malwarebytes also have a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox, if you trust the company with access to your browsing data. You could consider using that for additional Web protection.

I've tried that extension in Firefox, but had issues with it hanging the browser. That was a couple of FF builds ago, I may try it again. It's still Beta, since last August.

I don't have any issues in 66b6 with it. I have never bothered to post at the MB forums about this.... but I have MB with the real time web protection active... do I really need the extension or is that for free MB users mainly?

Hello Dick, I've not tried that extension myself. Presently, I'm giving the one from Emsisoft a shot. I don't know how effective it is but I like their privacy-oriented approach.

Good to know. Also, the one from MB covers a lot more Web threats compared to the Emsisoft one (although I don't care for their click-bait and fake news blocking filter bubble.)

The Emsisoft one hasn't blocked a single thing so far. I must be a safe browser

    Hi there
    [snip]....
Professional versions for LAN's (corporate) etc are still necessary -- all sorts of other stuff applies e,g Denial of service attacks, ransomware etc. But Home computers -- no longer necessary -- who's going to spend a lot of time and effort in creating a Denial of service on some miserable sub teens bedroom home computer or some 84 year old grandma!!!!
    Cheers

I disagree. I have protection built into my router, and I can tell you, I see the Intrusion Detection working constantly. There are malicious-intent auto scans all over the web that are constantly looking for backdoor access, trying to run remote command execution shell scripts, attempting to insert ransomware, etc., including DDoS attacks. Not a day goes by that there hasn't been at least 1 attack on my router.

Windows Defender is getting better all the time. But, Malwarebytes has always been one of the best. There's something to be said for that.

I've been using MBAM browser extension since it first launched. It has blocked some stuff including downloads.

    I also use this:

    TrafficLight - Chrome Web Store

I tested the Emsisoft extension with some new phishing and malware links and it blocked them all. However, my Bitdefender AV Free Edition was also blocking them at the same time. Since Traffic Light is from Bitdefender, they both seem redundant to me in my case. I'll keep the Emsisoft one for a while to see how it develops.

Hello. Windows Defender did something nasty to my machine and now I cannot access the Internet through any browser although my system shows I have connection. Just get the nutty "This webpage is not available" with "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN"....
