    Was hoping that this was the simple Ask Hijack but looks like it could be a more serious one

    Have a look at the removal guide here ... How to remove virus (Removal Guide) go through it step by step and it should hopefully clear everything

    I will also move this thread to our security section as this may attract some members with better experience in this type of issue

    Check Config


    Are you using the traditional Search box or the Address bar search?

    There are options in the FF config file (about:config) that allow you to set a search engine for the Address bar.
    Try:

    1. Type about:config in the Address bar
    2. Acknowledge the warning message
    3. Type search in the about:config Search box
    4. Look at the results and check for any that mention Ask

    If you see an Ask entry, take a screenshot and post it so that someone can advise you further.

    Here is a screenshot from my Pale Moon about:config page (the FF one should be fairly similar):
