Yes,, that's why it can be hard to select an AV. When in doubt I would stick with Defender/Malware Bytes and use your brain,, the best AV ever made.

I had the advantage for having had a few good sources to get advice from as well as having simply run with the AVG free edition before 7 came along and then was pointed at the free 30 day trial period when finding AVG simply wasn't going to cut it any longer along with not wanting any more internet security useless toolbars added onto IE back then! That was also the time that IE 9 followed by IE 10 soon after was running into problems keeping multiple browser windows open! IE would keep locking up!

Common sense will usually be the most effective out of anything while when going to advise on what "paid for" software to get when talking to others I had to find a program worth the effort as well as the $$$! The reviews are typically too one sided in contrast to being 100% totally objective since these companies will say "make us look good!" to the reviewer(s)?! And some of the latest reports indicate some of these companies make big claims and see favorable reviews while having shady practices as well?

    brain needs coffee to run.

P.S. Went with Panda for now. Easy enough to figure out and I used to use Panda around 8-10 years ago. Oh, Panda's a trial, not free. My version says it will expire in 9000 days.

Panda does have a free version, but i think it only gets downloaded from a 3rd party site.
I prefer downloading from MajorGeeks rather than the default site Panda uses.
Download Panda Free Antivirus - MajorGeeks

FREE and lightweight antivirus - Panda Security

I never used the trial version.
I have Panda free on a Win 8.1 OS right now.
The only thing i don't like is the scheduled scan(s) don't run a missed scan, the OS must be running when the scan is set to run.
The option to run the missed scan is disabled in the Scheduled Task Panda creates

I downloaded Panda Free Antivirus 16.1.0 from Filehippo. It says freeware. I was being sarcastic about the 9000 day "trialware". If its an error, they did it twice... " 9000 days, expires in 2040"

Not that any AV programs are really very useful, but of your choices, Panda is the better one. It may help a little. But don't think that you are really safe from malware.

Also using Malware AntiMalware Bytes and Super Anti Spyware. Should be good enough.

If you use those as scanners, they are a good supplement of the AV program. But they only give you a report after the fact.
