Just Defender and Firewall. If you do regular system images nothing else is needed. I have to chuckle about the Ransomware attacks. Let them try. I do a Clonezilla image every few days in addition to having personal data backed up on external HDD. Takes less than 15 minutes to do a system image. No need to ever fear virus attacks.
I agree. Backups are the first line of defense against any kind of malware (and the most important one). Nonetheless I use av software as a supplementary measure. Even though I could always restore my data after a successful attack on my pc it would still be unpleasant and I'd really like to avoid it if possible.

Bitdefender Free has finally been updated, so I install that one on the computers.
After trying out all the free AVs, this one seems to be the lightest one, thus far.
Along with the inbuilt Kaspersky in the browser, it provides a nice protection.

Windows 10 Firewall & Defender are working great for me, I do have Malwarebytes for a second opinion, but have had no problems :)

    Kaspersky Internet Security 2016.
It was recommended by a PC repair/rebuild/recovery shop I used a few years ago and it's often rated highly in security software reviews. I've had no regrets, but I have no idea it is worth the cost.

I just use Windows defender. Do these new computers need a firewall? or is the built in one enough protection.

I am using AVG Free 2016 Protection, Malwarebytes Free 2016, and the built in Windows Firewall. I used to have AVG Internet Security 2015 Trail and Malwarebytes Premium Free Trail, but they conflict (so I was told) with each other. So good thing I didn't go through with the PAID versions

Windows defender on this dual booting Win 10 box . Avast free on the other 3 10586th2 Win 10 PC's , mbam free & mbam Anti-Exploit & mbam Anti Ransom-Ware beta on all of them along with Windows Firewall ofc.

Note : mbam Anti Ransom-Ware beta did not prevent a re direct to a Ransom-Ware web page yesterday that locked my browser tabs & browser and mbam Anti-Exploit let it get by the browser in the first place . I had to open taskman and kill the browser app and re launch it and get on with my business .

All those things are all out of date by lunchtime anyway the first day U install them even with frequent updating so it'a crap shoot anyway ...........................

That being said I generally like all the mbam products and beta's will be betas anyway

Malwarbytes shouldent conflict with anything ....that's the first I've heard of that maybe ( never seen it either )

Maybe whoever is saying all that is mis informed or looking at or having another conflict and attributing it to the above wont be the first time somebody did all that .

    I'm using mbam free & mbam Anti-Exploit & mbam Anti Ransom-Ware beta .

mbam paid is mostly just mbam free with more features enabled but the same engine under the hood.

OTOH Maybe Mbam should come up with Anti-Nagware for Windows 10
