I think it would be safe to use the AV major players, AVG, Avast etc. The best thing to do is check out the reviews for the best free AV and go from there. Right now and likely in the future when Win10 final comes out I'll use MS defender. It works well and it's been fully tested with Win10 already.

Interestingly enough, Baidu was not on the list of free antivirus vendors that use these tactics.

    Hi there

I've long said it and I'll repeat it again.

For HOME computers on any OS from W8 onwards YOU DO NOT NEED ANY 3rd party AV. Windows defender (built in) is just fine.

Forget 3rd party AV stuff now --their time has been and gone. Also NO Post analysis report is ever going to be accurate - those comparative reports will by their nature be totally out of date by the time they appear. A new problem can appear at any time rendering for example a comparative result taken even a week before totally meaningless.

Keep your windows firewall reasonably secure by blocking any port(s) you are not actively using both ways (i.e inbound and outbound) and only allow specific applications and programs to access the internet. That plus sensible computer use and Windows defender should keep you as safe as it's possible to get these days. Most serious problems are actually SCAMS when people open dubious attachments from emails or click on bad links. These types of scams are almost impossible to guard against by purely software means.
