How can I reinstate Windows Defender, which is now closed down,by removing McAvee security even though the icon is missing.

Type defender in the search bar and select Windows Defender Settings.

Make sure defender is turned on.

    Hello Willden, :)

Double check using OPTION ONE in the tutorial below to make sure that Recycle Bin is checked.

If you haven't already, see if turning it off, apply, and turning it on may sort it.

If it doesn't help, then check using the tutorial below to see if you may have hidden all icons on your desktop by mistake instead.

I hope you used a uninstaller to get rid of McAfee, otherwise you may be having problems due to leftover files.

The McAfee uninstaller can be found here. You may wish to run it if you haven't to make sure you get rid of everything. AV's embed themselves deeply into a OS, this is normal behavior, but it also makes uninstalling them somewhat difficult. The best course of action is to use the AV's uninstaller to remove as much as possible. Any leftover orphan files can cause problems down the road.

Do you have more than one monitor? Please use the windows key + P when you next have a blank screen on start up and try a different monitor arrangement

    Bin

When I press start or W+p it cycles through a empty desktop first after logging in then Windows desktop picture appears.Could I please ask you not to suggest that I undertake anything too involved or technical as I am undergoing a severe illness and my physical and mental strengths leave a great deal to be desired.
