I think you should run it 3X like the tutorial suggests. Still a chance it can fix it. It may fix it on the 3rd try.

If not, agree simrick, time to try one of these. Indeed, if you are having various problems, doing a repair install could be the best option aside from doing a clean install. That's up to you, with a clean install you start with a fresh OS. However you do loose your setup, so the choice is up to you.

This tutorial will show you how to do a repair install of Windows 10 by performing an in-place upgrade without losing anything.

If you're having problems with Windows 10 on your PC, you could use push-button reset to refresh or reset Windows.
See the tutorial & at the bottom you will find links to the other options listed.

I see other people are having this prob, I wonder if it was caused by the latest updates?

I have ran the sfc command over 6 times now (restarting my pc in between)... its never able to fix the corrupted files.

The ironic thing about all this is that in order for me to install the new windows 10 build I did an in place upgrade.

I was not offered the new build in windows update because my windows 10 installation was less than 30 days old. I wanted the new build because I heard it might fix the DTS 5.1 surround sound bug (another windows 10 problem...). Not only has everything been screwed up since the new build, but 5.1 surround sound still doesn't work

I guess when I get home from work today I can try the in place upgrade again? Maybe it will work better this time...

If all else fails I will completely flatten my installation and do a clean reinstall by Christmas, im planning on getting a new SSD.

@Ocman76 if you'd like, copy and paste the following in an administrative command prompt and we'll have a look at your CBS log.

    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"
This will place a text file on your desktop called sfcdetails.txt. Upload it an an attachment and we'll have a look. There are one or two "problems" that are erroneous and will never be fixed by the system file checker, like an entry for a Canon printer...

The text file created on the desktop is empty for some reason. There is nothing in it.

Well that's odd. Try it once more please. If still nothing, go copy the entire CBS log to your desktop, then zip it up and upload it. It will be quite large.

Thanks. I'll have a look at it tomorrow.

Edit: Okay, I took a quick peek.
There is not a single line with [SR] in it. (I have never seen a CBS log like that before.) That explains why your text file was empty.

Are you getting any Windows Updates at all? Like minor KBs, etc? Just from a quick eyeball of the log, I think we're looking at resetting the Windows Updates components, based on the failures I see.

If you open it up in notepad, and search for "failed", next, next...google some of the failure codes and they all point to resetting WU components.

I know, not a solution, but a clue....

You could try a RESET, or another in-place upgrade. Since you are having other issues, it's probably best to do that, as @Borg 386 suggests in post #11. I just wonder if it has something to do with updating before the 30-days were up.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

I haven't gotten windows update to work at all since I downloaded the new build. It always fails and gives me some sort of error message.

Thanks for looking into the log for me

I'm going to do a reset tonight and I will let you know how it went tomorrow.

I would suggest try the refresh option first as this will preserve all your user settings.

Refreshing your PC fixes software problems by reinstalling the OS while preserving the user data, user accounts, and important settings. All other preinstalled customizations are restored to their factory state. In Windows 10, this feature no longer preserves user-acquired Windows apps.
    Refresh Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

    The other options:

Reset your PC prepares the PC for recycling or for transfer of ownership by reinstalling the OS, removing all user accounts and contents (e.g. data, Classic Windows applications, and Universal Windows apps), and restoring preinstalled customizations to their factory state.
Push Button Reset also give you the option to keep your files.

Push-button reset is a recovery tool that repairs the OS while preserving data, updates, and important customizations. It reduces the need for custom recovery applications by providing users with more recovery options and the ability to fix their own PCs with confidence.
If none of the options that preserve user data fix the problem, then it might be a good idea to start fresh with a clean install.
