How do I find the pre-installed McAfee to sign up if I skipped it?

    I have a brand-new Dell 13 Inspirion 7000 with Windows 10 from Costco.

Upon starting the computer for the very first time I went through Dell Welcome screens. One asked me to signup for McAfee LifeSafe. As I had heard so many negative things about this software, I skipped the sign up. Then I read at the McAfee site that I have to sign up in order to uninstall.

So now I want to sign up and I can't find it anywhere?! I have looked at the programs available for uninstall and it is not listed. I chatted with Dell tech support and they say it's not on my computer. I go to the Dell site and they make it clear that the software is pre-installed?!!!!

Go figure. So. Could someone please tell me where to go in this computer to find the McAfee signup?

Download McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool - MajorGeeks

Check the above link to remove. Also, go to the McAfee Forums for more info.

Good idea to remove all McAfee registry entries, folders, etc that may be left behind.

Please don't sign up for it. It will make it really tough to remove it.

    I would first look in C : > Program Files and also C: >Program Files (x86).

    Then C: >Users > (your user name)

Look for McAfee and delete it by right clicking on the file.

Then use the McAfee removal tool. If it does not work, download Revo uninstaller and use it to remove it.

Then look for any leftover's after.

You can download the Free version here : Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

Thank you I will follow up on your instructions I suspect it's not there. Maybe Dell decided to listen to the complaints and simply offered it as my only option during set up.

I ran LiveSafe until upgrading to a Win 10 build (it was pre-RTM) The Windows installer removed it - i guess it was deemed incompatible. There were remnants of files/registry entries that i used the removal tool to rid my system of.

They offer you the first year for $20 - if you are interested, contact their 24/7 customer service chat on their website and see what they can do for you. I'm sure they'll ask for the model/serial # in order to determine eligibility.

    Good luck!

Thank you : ) At the moment it appears I have a free OPPORTUNITY, not a pre-installed software package. Given the horror stories, I shall by pass the opportunity and select Bit Defender probably.

You do know Windows Defender is built into 10 and is free.
