    explorer blocked, virus suspected

    Greetings,

For a few weeks now the PC has been freezing in some places.

As soon as I start the PC everything works fine, then a few times the mouse click doesn't respond.
In particular, the taskbar appears busy or does not respond to clicks.
Explorer does the same thing when I click on folders.
If I opened edge, it works normally.

I did a hardware check in the bios and everything seems ok.

I tried different antiviruses, eset online, panda online, malware bytes, iobit fight, superantispyware.

    No one detected viruses.

superantispyware highlighted something in the user's temp folder for me.

I deleted everything but a temporary .tmp file remained which I don't know who uses it. I tried parsing it in virustotal and it just tells me it's "gzip".

I tried restarting explorer.exe and sometimes it fixes it and sometimes it doesn't.

The problem remained. Do you have any ideas on how I can solve it?

Hi, freezing has to be a matter of patiently eliminating possible causes.

There are various threads on freezing where suggestions have been given, including mine.
    Freezing is typically non diagnostic.

Start with the idea of separating the cause - hardware vs installed O/S.

when you've eliminated hardware causes as best you can then given
    For a few weeks now...
obviously you might consider what changed back then.

I'm not going to repeat all I've said in those other threads by way of logical suggestion. Good luck!

    Thank you ,

I'm doing an "on place" reinstallation. So I eliminate a good part.

The tmp file I discovered is from Nvidia, so the problem is still hidden.

If you have links or threads I can read them.

Like you, I'd have to search- I have no special list.

Simply use advanced search, search for freeze or freezes or freezing. You can use my id dalchina as well.

I saw the reliability and the PC doesn't seem to be in good shape.

Now I have done an on-place installation of Windows 10. I'll try it and let you know if I solved it. Let's hope it's not a hardware problem...

    Forget it...

reinstalling did not fix the problem.

At this point, given that only Explorer crashes, could it still be a software or even hardware problem?

    Explorer extension?

Do the usual check starting with e.g. Shellexview (free).

If unclear- see the tutorial in the searchable Tutorials section or see similar threads in tenforums.
(Hint search for - yes- Shellexview).

As for freezes could be disk, RAM, PSU, overclocking, RAM incompatibility.

And they could be due to some configuration issue in your installation..

I've made more comprehensive comments previously as said.

hardware check from bios, CPU, RAM, MB, SSD, Everithing is OK

controlled with antivirus: I have not solved

reinstalled on place: I have not solved

deactivated all non -Microsoft services: I have not solved

Disabled with Shellextens ... all Context: I have not solved

I am trying to eliminate the possible causes.

To do as soon as possible what you advise me to do. Work to see hardware problems or start seeing software problems?

The PC in question is a 2-3-year laptop. HP Victus.

I am just curious if the Inplacement created a new Recovery Partition right behind (C:) or is it still on Partition (5). I remember the struggle we had in January. If it has changed it would be nice to see a screenshot of Diskmanagement. But make sure that the 1st column in the upper field is so wide, that everything is readable.

Solely considering explorer-related crashes and excluding anything else, as said before in other such threads, if the problem with file explorer is a shell extension, then, as said in other such threads, also try Autoruns (free from MS) which may well show more shell extensions. Use with caution. Do not disable MS items.
