    unable to start defender

    Hi all,
I just used the Avast tool to uninstall Avast free and can't get windows defender to start. On the security page shown here I don't have any option to start it. Any help?
    TIA,
    Harry

I would just re-install Defender. Avast probably turned something OFF.

Alternatively install 'Everything' and use it to search and remove any Avast leftovers. Then rebooting.

    Downloads - voidtools

I have everything installed and did just that and still nothing. I'll try to reinstall defender

Txs Ghot but it is stuck on this screen

Also a restore would only result in avast being back on

It is very unlikely the above replies will help, unfortunately.

The red message in the screenshot indicates there's a registry setting equivalent to a group policy that is set.

That's your first clue. I screen OCR'd that message and searched for it.

    Try:

    Windows/Microsoft Defender Enable.bat at main . TairikuOokami/Windows . GitHub

Download raw file, right click on it and run as admin. Note that it will restart PC.

Try below batch script, it will reset all group policy settings to default.

Thanks M8 that did the trick, all working ok now.

FreeBooter, should I also run the batch script or not necessary?

If you are experiencing "Some setting manage by organization message" in Settings app, you can use my batch script to resolve this problem message.
