    pop-up malware

My Windows computer (Windows 10 Home) has malware that repeatedly pops up obviously false ads for McAfee, Windiws virus alerts, and more. They pop up in the lower right corner of my screen and stay on top of all windows. My browser is Firefox. Firefox extensions do not help ( WOT, Ghostery, AdblockerUltimate,, PopUp Blocker). I am also getting an "Ads by Google " banner across the bottom of the screen. All of the above, if closed, re-appear in a few minutes. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this?

I would clear the cookies, cache & history & then use Revo Uninstaller free to cleanly remove Firefox (remembering to scan for leftovers) then reinstall a fresh version of Firefox.
They’re scapopups intended to scare the user into believing their system is infected when it is a browser virus from a dodgy/infected site.

It's nothing to do with malware.

    See:

    https://www.mcafee.com/support/?loca...l=article-view

    Also:

Look at the above link and read instructions for Firefox. Instead of blanket blocking all notifications you could also use the "Remove all websites" button.

Your system will scan clean because there's nothing malicious to detect or remove. You've allowed notifications on some website and it's serving up those notifications.

Temporarily disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware protection - instructions here.
    • Please visit the ESET Online Scanner website
    • Click the SCAN NOW button to download the esetonlinescanner_enu.exe file to the Desktop
    • Double click esetonlinescanner_enu.exe. Accept the Terms of Use
    • Select Enable detection of potentially unwanted applications
    • In Advanced Settings: make sure that Clean threats automatically is unchecked
    • And Enable detection of potentially unsafe applications, Enable detection of suspicious applications, Scan archives, and Enable Anti-Stealth technology are all checked.
    • Click Scan
    • The program will begin to download it's virus database. The speed may vary depending on your Internet connection.
    • When completed, the program will begin to scan. This may take several hours. Please, be patient.
    • Do not do anything on your machine as it may interrupt the scan.
    • When completed it'll show a list of "Threats found", click beneath it on Save to text file.... and save it as ESET log.txt on your Desktop.
    • Then click Do not clean. Place a checkmark at Delete application's data on close, click Finish and close the program.
    • Please copy and paste the log it generated (the one you just saved on your Desktop) here.

Don't forget to re-enable previously switched-off protection software!

    Pop-up malware

Thanks to Bastet, Callender, and Freebooter for your suggestions.

I first tried Bastet's suggestions, but neither "Firefox" nor "Mozilla" appears in Revo Uninstaller, or Program Files, or Program Files (x86"), or Control Panel/Uninstall Programs.

I next tried Callender's suggestions, and that appears to have worked. I have not gotten any more of these pop-ups in the last 2 days. (I do seem to recall clicking on a notifications permission when I meant only to close an annoying window.)

I have not tried Freebooter's suggestions, as the problem appears to be solved.

Bastet: Do you see a looming problem should I ever need to uninstall Firefox? I can see no way to do so.

Hats off to all of you who donate your expertise to those of us who are technically challenged.

    Launch Firefox.

Copy and paste this into the address bar:

    about:support

    Press Enter.

It should list application path (Application Binary) and also profile folder path.

@wvbirdman was Firefox downloaded from the MS App Store? If so then it’ll be under Apps section. If not then it should appear under Programs. As it doesn’t show even under Control panel’s installed programs list it suggests that may be the case.

    pop up malware

    Bastet:
Attached is the result of " about:support".

Does this represent a problem? Should I delete these folderspop-up malware-path.jpg and download Firefox differently?

    Thanks

Did you use Revo to uninstall the app then scan for leftovers? Revo should’ve removed that folder.
You can delete the remnants if FF has been removed.
You can download Firefox from their website:

FYI. That is the MS Store UWP version of Firefox. If it's working just leave it alone.
