You can test a link using Browserling.

As to DNS, check out NextDNS which is like Pi-hole for the cloud.

I use Sandboxie classic for all my browsers. That way it helps mitigate the effects of malicious Java Script and whatnot.

You should not be loading images by default in e-mail and you should view all e-mails as text only and only allow HTML on a per e-mail basis IF you can absolutely trust the e-mail. But that takes some know how, interpreting the DKIM and whatnot...

This is how I roll... Though, I use Thunderbird.

Yes that works great. Thanks. However it doesn't let you know if it's dodgy does it?

No, it doesn't. What it allows you to do is see what the link is all about in a sandbox and with a cloud IP address. Best if also used with Sandboxie classic for your browser.

I like to use Browserling to pull a "Chad" on the would-be spear phisher that uses login pages that look like the real thing. I'll input a load of crap and after I've had my fun report the domain to their domain register, their hoster and spamcop, a Cisco owned company.

    thanks for clarifying
ESET and Kaspersky among others i never heard of said it's safe , then Bitdefender and some others i never heard of says its malicious , to me it looks like a roll of the dice ?
i can understand if a few well known AV's says its unsafe then its unsafe .
but this mixtures of results isn't helping if you know what i mean
personally if i see 2-3 results (no matter who it comes from) unsafe , i skip that link
plus the way the email is constructed / worded , is also a giveaway ...
its depending on factors, the model for a long time was heuristics patterns so the malware detection was following patterns, a phishing page like the one described is not inherently good or bad its just grey hat in nature. Therefore some engines may deem it as no risk.

A engine using Ai detection is going to see it as nefarious because its trained to see it that way.

Bottom line is if you get more than one hit then its no good, realistically there should be no hits on VS for something to be peace of mind, at discretion though because using common sense things can still be nefarious in nature just not a imminent threat.
Like that example page earlier is not necessarily dangerous even though it is data mining you if you enter real credentials.

hits of false positive would be situational depending on consensus and company reputation etc. Whether or not the app or what ever is open or closed source.

if its an email and not from something important then head the warning because on a legit email there should be none all green

for example a link from steam scanned
    VirusTotal

you can see it is all green the ones that reported back, you can also look further in the details tab that it lines up to what it is portraying itself to be in the email.

if the details tab was incoherent in a way where it does not look to match the sort of thing you are made to believe in the email then its discrepancy and questionable between the two. This is also not easy way to tell sometimes but clearly from this information i can see various signs that the link is taking me to somewhere i think it is.

Because you scanned the virus total link itself, the actual domain comes back clean.

That Hybrid Analysis tripped my security like a bitch and thus the 503.

I actually find that funny. It's testing MY WEBSITE for security shenanigans and whatnot, yet they themselves look like crap connecting to me.

Oh, you can't use VirusTotal to get a new scan unless I allow them. Same with the wayback Pink Floyd machine. LOL
