I downloaded the ISO and mounted it to a virtual drive. The setup got stuck and even leaving it on for over an hour, it didn't progress and was using 0% CPU and 0% RAM.

I then tried making a bootable USB windows 11 install. I restarted my PC and booted from the USB. I selected the "keep files and apps" and it said this: "The upgrade option isn't available if you start your computer using installation media. Please remove the installation media and restart your computer. After the computer has started normally, insert the installation media and run Setup."

So I already tried this right? With the ISO file and running it via virtual drive. So I tried again what I have tried several times before using the bootable USB stick but within Windows. After getting the updates, it then force closes! So I do not know how I am able to attempt a reinstall of Windows without doing a clean install. Any ideas?

Is there anything on your computer that you need then copy it to some other device. Then boot from the USB flash drive and do a clean install of Windows 11. Make sure you do a custom install where you get to delete all partitions on the boot drive. That way you will start with everything new. Note the current version of the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool will create a setup for Windows 11 32H2. That was just updated from 22H2 a week ago.

I had some different problems than you that prompted me to reinstall Windows 11 just a 12 days ago. Now I just wish I had done that months ago. Note I had copied everything important to an external drive before I did the reinstall. That way I could copy it back after the re-installation.

Yes, I have an external Hard Drive and multiple SSDs so I can backup my data no problem. What's preventing me at this very moment is I don't have time to reinstall all the apps, my games etc and get everything set back up but I will do next month if I can't fix this now. I would like to ask when clean installing Windows, should I be using my Microsoft account? or can I use a local account? What are the pros and cons of each? Would not logging into my Microsoft account cause Windows activation issues?
