My impression was that my data drive was the root of the problem? Dragging and dropping from that folder to anywhere else, not just the desktop, prompts the warning. In reverse, i.e. there is no alert no matter how you move files to that data partition from anywhere else.

That said, I went to my other multi-boot install, tried things there. It had the problem, but it did not occur "every" time I tried to move a file. I ran the command, and the result was a bit different



All I can say is that, after a restart, everything was working fine. I created a Macrium image, restored it to the problem install, and so far, so good.

But in the past, the problems eventually resurfaced, so we'll see. That said, just in case, is there a command format that can address my N:\ drive? Or am I misinterpreting the whole process.

Yes, it's the same syntax.
You just use N:\ as the path in that command.
iCacls - SS64

I only mentioned your Desktop because I thought that's what you said was the problem folder. The problem folder is the one you are copying from not the one you are copying to.

- If you wanted to work on the whole N:\ drive then it would be ICACLS N:\ /L /T /SETINTEGRITYLEVEL MED
- The warning dialog is caused by the source folder you are copying from not the destination folder you are copying to.

When I recently ran the command on my C:\Users\%UserName%\Favourites folder it worked for all except the Bing.url in that folder so I just overwrote that file with the backup copy I had made before the update that started this problem off and then it also started to behave itself.

I tried running this and nothing happened

ICACLS N:\ /L /T /SETINTEGRITYLEVEL MED

I want it to apply to the entire N:\ directory, but I tried it this way, and it ran, but it had no effect.

ICACLS N:\BACKUPS /L /T /SETINTEGRITYLEVEL MED

Does this warning apply to that command "By not preserving the zone information, Windows cannot make appropriate risks assessments. This can cause a security risk to your PC by not having downloaded files blocked by default anymore"

Is N:\BACKUPS the folder you are copying from?

Does the command respond by listing each folder & file it processes?
e.g.

Code:

processed file: N:\BACKUPS\Print Screen key - explanation.url

I have no idea if Pro allows you to set a policy to block such changes. I know nothing about Pro.

This situation & this command have nothing to do with the blocking of downloaded files.
