Manually update Windows Defender Antivirus platform?

I have an old PC with Windows 10 (ver 1607) and its current Antimalware client version of Windows Defender is 4.18.1807.xx

Is it possible to manually update it to the latest version? I downloaded the files here (https://www.catalog.update.microsoft...px?q=KB4052623) and try to run them but nothing updated. Can you please advise? Thanks.

    Hello @M150,

Have a look at this > How to Update Security Definitions for Microsoft Defender Antivirus

    I hope this helps.

Thanks, but I need to update the platform version (client version), because the security definition have already been up to date.

P.S: I tried the below command but it said "Signature update finish. No updates needed":
    "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender\MpCmdRun.exe" -SignatureUpdate

1607 is missing %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Platform. Later W10 builds have this folder present, and there's likely a version check which blocks the updateplatform installer.

If you allow 1607 to be feature-updated to 20H2, WU will install the 4.18 platform.

Could you trick the installer, or manually copy the files? Maybe, but it probably won't automatically update itself in the future.

I'd like to avoid updating because this is a really old PC. However, I checked the location and found the platform folder inside, together with 2 different MS Defender versions?!
I think the only hope now is some one or some place that still keep the old versions of Platform Update KB4052623 files, that I can try to update mine to a newer ver first...

    That is the correct command.
Windows updates both the platform & the malware definitions in response to that command.
The response you received indicates that there is no platform update available for [compatible with] your out-of-support Version of Windows.

I managed to keep a 2005 computer going on Windows 10 to to Version 1709 but, as happened to several of us with old computers, Version 1803 onwards would not install.
But, since yours is new enough to have 16GB RAM, I doubt that you would face the same limitation.
Perhaps you could make a system image and try updating the Windows Version to see what happens.

    Hello Hello @M150,

Although this does NOT give you the Platform information, it will give you ALL the Definitions information.

Copy & Paste the following command into a CMD Prompt and press Enter.

    Code:

    PowerShell Get-MpComputerStatus ^| Select-Object *Version, *LastUpdated, *Age

    I hope this helps.

Thanks Denis. You're correct. The platform via Windows update is no longer available for my winver 1607 and manual update is the only option. Actually, I've just managed to update it manually to ver 4.18.1902.x (Feb 2019) by using the setup file below. However, I cannot find the setup file of ver 4.18.1903.x (Mar 2019). I can only find the setup file of ver 4.18.1904.x (Apr 2019) but it's failed to run. The download links are as below, means I only need to have the filename of Platform Update in Mar 2019. Being searching it all over the Internet but... no hope for now.

Thanks. I knew my defender's definitions is up to date, only the platform version is outdated.

Perhaps trying to update your highly-capable computer would be less effort than trying to find a later Defender version.

    Best of luck,
