HP 400 series LaserJet firmware bogus downlod

There is nothing on the HP website about a firmware update for my 400 series Laserjet, yet this morning the flip-up control panel displayed a message about an update available for download. I pressed the button for "start this download" before I realized that I needed to check on the HP website, and I cancelled the download.

This printer is probably 5 or 6 years old now, so you have to wonder why it's getting a firmware update now. Sure enough, the last firmware update is back in 2021.

So why am I getting this notice now for the first time? Has the HP website been compromised?

    Win 10 Pro 64, 2H22.

    Hello @x509,

What is the EXACT Model Number of the Printer ?

Besides getting it from the Printer itself, you can Copy & Paste the following command into a CMD Prompt and press Enter.

    Code:

    PowerShell "(Get-Printer).Name"

    I hope this helps.

The exact printer is a 401dn, However, the real point here is that one day after my original post, the printer NO LONGER displayed a message about a firmware update. So I suspect there was an issue with an HP server, which got fixed.

    Case closed.
