    @x509 ..... to find a rootkit methods include behavioral-based methods, signature scanning and memory dump analysis. Also by looking for certain things in logs performed by Malware experts !!
    @flashh4

    What you describe is a lot of non-productive work, especially if done on a regular basis. Isn't it easier to just be done with in and activate anti-rootkit?

    @x509, in your opening post you ask if "If you have Malwarebytes installed, do you still need Anti-rootkit installed ?"
    So i ask you why would you keep a program if it is not needed at the time ? And if you check any of the Malware Forums they recommend removing any programs used during the cleaning ! So it's up to you !! Keep or remove !

    As the OP maybe I need to restate my question. Does MalwareBytes anti-rootkit provide additional security above what MalwareBytes provides? If it does, then I re-install it. (I'm doing software installs on a fresh-install Windows build.

    @x509 i have worked i'd say around 30 logs that showed Rootkit infections, most we cleaned up nicely without a wipe/install ! But NO "Does MalwareBytes anti-rootkit provide additional security above what MalwareBytes provides"? Cleaning Rootkits is a very long process ! You could ask Brink he has done a lot also !

    Thanks for your replies. I'm very impressed that you have been a malware removal specialist for 25 years. Malware has certainly changed and gotten more difficult to remove since say 1990.
