Trying to cleanup an infected usb external driver, using the REMOVE option from Defender does just nothing. After rescanning virus comes up again. I thought remove was meant for delete/destroy infected files.
Ideas?
Did you Restart the system after selecting Remove ?
Also, may want to try a WD offline scan. If all fail, try ESET or another AV.

Are you sure that it's not actually scanning it's own history?

Nope. I have tried another run. Move to quarantine and remove from quarantine doesn't do anything even if restarting in between. I ended up manually deleting those infected files with Total Commander.
I am pretty fed up with Defender's crappy interface and Windows newer interfaces nowadays.
