Microsoft has fixed a bug in Windows Defender that was leading to high CPU usage when Firefox was open. It only took the company 5 years to fix the issue.

Others might like to note that they need take no particular action to get the fix. Windows security will update with the fix during its routine updates [what we commonly think of as its malware definition updates also include updates to the platform itself].
The updated, bug-fixed version is 4.18.2302 and is shown inWindows security,

Or, from a PowerShell console: (Get-MpComputerStatus).AMServiceVersion
Or just Get-MpComputerStatus to get version info about all Windows Defender components.

Hmm. A more important question would be...
Why did it take Microsoft 5 years?
Possible answer is that all their forums and Feedback Hub are practically useless with no direct channel to the developers.
Anything that they do is what Microsoft wants, on their timetable - they think that they know the customer best!
They need a bug/feature request submission system that is ticketed, tracked and responded to by trained development employees that can filter out the fluff and make real changes!
Sometimes, it is the fault of 3rd party applications. They need to be held responsible as well.
IMHO, Linux (as a whole) has a much more responsive community. In addition, Linux is not weighed down by crap applications and other nonsense.
