I don't really know either so this is my speculation they feel like they need to release a new OS at a certain threshold because they would have to show investors what they are doing and a new OS is an easy way to achieve that .
Uhh. For investors, it's about the quarterly results and the "earnings call" with analysts. Microsoft has multiple revenue streams and not just an OS revenue stream. The revenue from consumer upgrades is probably just a rounding error. The OEMs who provide most of the Windows revenue probably don't give two hoots about Win 11 or Win 12. For the OEMs, it's about competitively priced hardware.

Assuming that Microsoft wants to keep competitive with Windows, they can add new features to Win 11.

All this speculation about when and why MS will release Win 12 does not affect my decisions about buying or upgrading hardware, or about migration of my current systems to Win 11. I suspect that most people, even in this forum, would agree with me.

The simple fact that any large company that is operating well is going to have investors so yes showing those investors in Microsoft's case that you are developing and bringing out a new OS every X amount of years is something to bring to those reports.

it also creates portfolio and also helps potential new investors to make a decision if they want to back the company or not, it has nothing to do with what you are talking about.

Its not just quarterly it can be monthly and annually as well and yeah its mainly about bottom line their investors and generating a new OS every X period to keep those investors pretty simple logic.

Microsoft is also a publicly traded company which holds baring here they need to show what they are doing with their money and an new OS at periodic intervals is doing exactly that.

No they don't solely rely on their OS go read my posts i already outlined in a post a few weeks back that i am well aware of Microsoft's presence in the IT industry.

I also don't appreciate you trying to invalidate my post by saying that you "think everyone else agrees with you" what are you 5? Everyone is entitled to their opinion and speak for yourself not others.

They are outlining new software in their report which the operating system is just a collection of software. They also have a fine line not to diverge to much in a report because an investors report is essentially a projection of the future and what they are wanting to achieve so they don't come out and make direct statements it mainly what they have done and where they are wanting to go.
