    Offline Update for Windows Defender

Does microsoft host a website/server where the latest windows defender update packages can be downloaded in order to update the windows defender in offlinemode?
Are there other ways of updating the windows defender offline?

You can download the security intelligence updates as an offline installer from here:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/defenderupdates

    Thanks.
When i attempted to download the latest update my browser was redirected to
    https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=121721&arch=x64
This adress is blocked in my firewall so i cannot download anything unless unlocking the adress.
I preffer not allowing microsoft to phone home at all.

Anyways if you don't mind me asking... these updates are purely windows defender releated?
If i decide to install the update, what are chances for microsoft edge suddenly re-appearing on my system....?
I know microsoft... i know that they love to reinstall their disgusting bloatware even when the user decided to uninstall it.

    1 Yes
    2 None

Do note that that Defender definition download is exactly that - Defender malware definitions. It does not include Defender platform updates.
Checking for updates through the Defender user interface includes both definition updates & platform updates.

So you are saying windows defender is made of two parts, definition and platform, what is the difference?
I asume when you say malware that is releated to all types of threats like viruses, ransomware, trojan?

From my experience it is always a risk to install anything from microsoft, you never know what it does.
Like when i installed minecraft and suddenly a watermarker appeared said i must buy a license for windows.
How can a game be so absuive to scan if my system has a license or not, microsoft lost their mind long time ago.

Defender is the application, the platform. Malware definitions are reference files that it uses as part of its job of identifying malware.
[It's a bit like talking about MSOffice Word as the application, the platform, and a Word document as a datafile that it references.]
Malware definitions get updated more than once a day. The platform gets updated every few months.

Malware is a generic term encompassing terms like like viruses, ransomware, trojan.

I suspect your missing licence was identified by Windows not that game.

Updated more than once a day, well i don't recive any of these updates.
As long you dont klick some random links and have common sense, infecting your device isnt high risk..
Are these defender updates in any way releated to smartscreen? Because i have it turned off.

An no my missing license was not triggered by windows, it was triggered after installing minecraft which is not a coincidance.
I'f used the os half a year without anything, then the day i installed minecraft which is owned by the same company as my operatingsystem i suddenly had this dumb watermark that want me to pay money, think whatever you want i know from my guts that installing minecraft triggered the silly activation marker.

1 Defender platform & definition updates are handled by Windows update. If you have inhibited that in some way then the updates will not happen automatically.

2 Even if Windows update is inhibited, Defender platform & definition updates can be obtained using the link shown in the Defender user interface.

3 Task scheduler can also be used to obtain Defender platform & definition updates by using it to run a batch / PS command script.

Defender updates have nothing to do with Smartscreen.

The defender user interface is not working for me, i disabled some things and something caused it to no longer show up when i klick the option to open it in windows settings, i can still add defender exclusions with commandline which is all i have needed to do so far.

So i cannot access the check for updates setting, and even if i could i wouldnt use it, either install those updates offline or not at all. And even if the option would be visible to me, defender has no network access, my windows keeps its mouth shut.

But i'm curious now, why does the option "open windows security" do nothing when i klick it?
I know why, because i modified the system, that's obvious. I mean what specifically causes this and is there a way to restore it?
-I don't mind if i can't restore it, just want to know why the option doesn't do anything.

    You answered your own question.

    Reinstall Windows.
If you do modify it, make a new system image before each step & test everything after each step so you can see which one causes this problem & can undo it.
