    Can NOT run Windows Defender

I have been trying to run Windows Defender as my antivirus. After doing a search in my browser, I was instructed to search in Windows using "Windows Defender" and Select "Windows Defender". That should open up something that looks like MSE used to look.

That does NOT happen. It opens up the browser that gives lots of places to look.
Do I have to install Windows Defender or what? This really has me dumb founded.

Never Mind I think I found it and is running a full scan now.

    It was under setup.

I am saying in all honesty "I am beginning to HATE Windows 10. Nothing seems to work as advertised. Most times things are NOT where it is supposed to be.

ONE thing that is bugging my wife is that Windows 10 hangs up way to often and the only solution is to reboot. BTW it is her computer.

    Hey mate,

Two things you can do to make things run better.

    1. Update: it is a MUST that you get all driver updates from your computer manufacturer. Specifically the ones for Windows 10. Speed and stability are what they are there for.

    2. Search: it is a simple matter to press the windows key (or click) and just start TYPING! Type defender and Voilà! There it is.

Any questions about how to do what I mentioned? Just ask! If you are worried about speed, another way to gain it is to REMOVE all bloatware programs (toolbars, coupons, ask, yahoo, optimizers, faster pc, etc). Never install programs you don't specifically need to use. Windows takes care of itself in the optimization department.

" Get all driver updates from your computer manufacturer." This computer is rather old. It is a Dell Inspiron 531s. It originally had Windows Vista on it. I bought it second hand and never had the disc with the drivers on it and have never needed the drivers. I have installed windows 7 on it and it worked great without having the drivers.

Dell NO longer supports this computer so I am out of luck in that respect.

It is nice to know about the Windows key for search and I can try that. As I stated before when I try search it also sends me to Edge (which absolutely detest). I would think the fix for Edge would be simple to be able to add menus for it to assist in getting around.

When it comes to asking questions I am NOT bashful LOL.

    Thanks for the response.

    Hey mate,

If you have any questions about navigating the computer, this forum has tens of people just waiting to offer various ways to go about it. Just check out the "Best antivirus ever" thread, and you'll find proof everyone has an opinion (haha!), myself included.

Unfortunately, without the proper drivers for your computer, there is always a chance you will encounter problems. Why, if you had drivers for Windows 7 when it was installed, I am sure you would have been amazed at the speed of the thing, even if it was fast before the drivers. Drivers also help with stability, and you may find certain annoyances can be attributed to missing proper drivers.

I said this on another thread as well: Not having drivers is like riding a horse without bridle and saddle. It is possible, but very likely you'll fall off eventually and crash to the ground.

But sincerely, any questions you have, the forum will likely be able to provide a hundred answers, all unique. Take care.
