    downloads blocked, forced to Allow?

Lately on my Win10 I'm getting roadblocks in the way of downloads of harmless programs from reputable sites. I'm forced to click through to Allow a download. Example, Multicommander from the Snapfiles site. I've been using Snapfiles for maybe 10 years without this BS. Is there some regedit to fix this?

I see a download blocked once in awhile but it usually is by Firefox or Windows Security. It appears mostly to affect install files for programs that can be used to make changes to the computer. Haven't had any issue with allowing, yet.

it only happens on *some* exe, maybe 1 out of 3, and it happens on Firefox and Opera-Vivaldi-Chrome. So it isn't about only the Windows Store MS.

As Stated, go to Settings/Apps/Choose Where to get apps and take the drop down arrow and select Anywhere.

    @Beldar

Some downloads from http (without the s), require you to click to "allow".
There are even some from Microsoft that require this.
I believe this is a Firefox thing. But other browsers may have opted for this as well.

    this fixed it for Firefox

Open about:config and set dom.block_download_insecure to false

I wonder if a FF update set this to True.

Disable The PUA-blocking feature, open the Windows Security app. Then go to App & browser control > Reputation-based protection. There you can toggle on or off the PUA-blocking feature.

    This should resolve the problem.

THANKS. Don't know about PUA, but App & browser control was already off in Windows Security.

If you're files display this in their Properties dialog:

    downloads blocked, forced to Allow?-blocked-download-zone-identifer-warning.png

It's due to Windows tacking on a Zone.Identifier alternate data stream.

You can clear this blocking en masse in PowerShell with the following:

With PowerShell open to the directory containing your files:

    Code:
    gci -af | Unblock-File

Or include files in subfolders as well:
    Code:
    gci -af -s | Unblock-File
