I use defender cause is free and better then any free AV and those you pay for are not any better then the integrated free defender,
i use defender and google chrome +add block Plus and that's all i need to be protected,as someone wisely posted the security in you PC is in your own hands most the times ,but the risk is there cause most of the free stuff on the web carries some type of malware,i don't like any type of malware antivirus or web browser blocking me from going to this or that site, for me that's not a good protection,a good protection is letting you to go to any site downloading stuff and blocking stuff that can harm your PC i don't think there is none of that,i mostly browse the web and i feel protected with defender and google chrome +Ad block Plus+blocking element, just do not open stuff that is suspicious, and you will be fine.and last resort if i'm infected i don't mind to make clean install , probably i will waist more time to get rid of the virus then re installing system,i'm more exposed to virus because i like to watch free sports streams and those adds that ride along the streams are the cause of most virus malware, that's why i like Chrome+ ad block Plus, but do not ever forget to block element in the Ad block control, if you don't you will be screwed.

I am using Avast on my Windows 7 build and I find it better than using the MS one.

I find it strange that Microsoft didnt build in a scheduler into Defender. Anyone have any idea why not?

First of all It's probably done with daily maintenance.
Second, an Av only needs to scan the system the first time it's installed to check/clean. Daily scans are unnecessary if Real -Time protection is on.

I have been using back then Avira which shown as a really good antivirus. Since the days I moved to Windows 7, I never installed any antivirus because I thought I don't need them because I am strict and know what to do online, so let Defender do it's job if I fail somewhere.
