For now, I'm using Avast. My preference was to us Windows Defender but something hosed the application and I've been unable to restart the services. I've posted the issue here and on the Microsoft Forum and all the suggestions I received didn't work. Only fix available is a clean install.
Didn't Microsoft already tell us that Windows Defender was just a So-So protection program? And to be really safe, you need to install an Aftermarket Anti-Virus program.
I just shut it off, and then Install AVG 2015 FREE, Super Anti-Spyware, Malware Bytes, Spybot Search & Destroy and Spyware Blaster.
But like many programs, the secret is in the Setup. NO program can just be installed and then forgotten. It don't work that way.
Setting up Security Systems is sort of my Speciallity.
Oh, by the way, shut down UPnP on both your PC and your Router, if you really want to be safe.
I did both of my WiFi routers this morning, after watching Steve Gibson's U-Tube video on UPnP.

You say: shut down UPnP on both your PC and your Router, if you really want to be safe.
My router comes with UPnP enabled, that's the way it should be,what you mean shutdown?

For a free one I like AVG/MBAM as well.. and I have that set up in Win8.1. When Win10 comes out in RTM I might use that combination or a great paid one,. Not sure right now.
Something that's not MICROSOFT related.
I'm using Windows Defender, Malwarebytes Anti-malware Premium and Anti-Exploit Premium, ClamWin, and MS EMET
