Hi guys I've used W10 on my laptop every morning I do my updates due running defender an I also have free ver of Proton vpn or should I remove all and something different

gordie, there are a lot of topics about this, IMO Windows defender is the best ! That's what i advise all my clients !

Hello @gordie.

There are MANY threads on this Forum that discuss this topic. At the end of the day, it is really down to personal choice of what you want from the Antivirus.

Windows Security [ Microsoft Defender ] has come a long way over the last few years and is now more than capable. Unlike other AV software, it does NOT throttle your Internet connection, or give FALSE Positives like other AV's may.

From what I have read, Microsoft Defender [ formerly Windows Defender ] works quite nicely with Malwarebytes.

For added security in case of infection, it is STRONGLY recommended that you regularly create a System Image along with the addition of backing up important data that you do NOT want to lose such as Folders, Files, Photos, etc, BOTH to an external drive.

Hi, gordie.

I believe with that combo, and a little sound judgement, you'll be fine.

I run the same and have never had an issue.

only my opinion
i was lightweight software (what they claim) before
i was use panda until they change to dome, resources eater ...
then i change to comodo free av then they stop it
i back to panda Free AV.. very light....
now i use defender
why ?
panda only consume total 40-60 MB
defender 150-200MB
but i still choose defender...
if we see the number.. 60 to 150 is 2x more.. but it was nothing on RAM.. very very very small different...
and who knows about your house except your self ?
same situation with who knows windows better than defender ?
(but i turn off the smart defender/filter, to make my edge and resources more friendly)

if you have conflict with defender and proton, just put on excluded

actually nowaday virus are not like 1995-2010 era...
best AV are the brainware , man behind on the keyboard....
even if you use best VPN and run 2-4 Realtime AV protection. you are still in dangerous. IF you dont know how to be nice person on web/internet
