Message saying I have 5 infestions

    Hi

    I have W10 home version 21H2 build 19044.1826

I have PC Matic/Supershield as an Anti Virus and scans come up clean,
but I am getting popups in the notification area sayinf I have 5 infections
and to click on a link to update McAfee Message saying I have 5 infestions-macfee.jpg

    Please se the attached.

THE PC had McAfee installed so I uninstalled it with Revo Pro but it seems it was not fully uninstalled, but
either way, how do I stop the popups and how do I check to see if I have a virus problem.

I apprecite any comments or advice.

    Regards

    Daniel

Neither of those products spring to mind as amongst the better known or most favoured.

    McAfee-
but it seems it was not fully uninstalled
    - what is your evidence for this? Presumably you are assuming that's this Webadvisor popup.
    See:
    Uninstall WebAdvisor by McAfee
    - well, it may be - or it could be something attempting to emulate that.

Thsi page includes a McAfee manual uninstall tool which you can download and use.
    https://www.mcafee.com/support/?arti...l=article-view

The traditional advice haas been not to use 3rd party uninstallers with AV software.

Others will advise on possible methods to clean your PC.

    Recommended:
The regular and routine use of disk imaging.
For example, if your PC becomes badly infected, you can restore it from a disk image created before that happened to a previous good state. E.g. Macrium Reflect (free/paid).

    Hi

thanks for your expert advice, I am following your advice as related on the web sites.

It seems all advice comes back to "Spyhunter" which I have installed and run.

I have 48 hrs to wait before I can proceed.

    Best regards

What is frustrating is there seems no match or sign of that Webadviser popup as an image on pages I've scanned- not even via Google image search.

If needed, you might learn more about the process behind it using e.g. Window Detective
but assuming it's malware that's probably disguised.

Malware scans seem highly appropriate; and you should consider what led to these infections in the first place.

More than likely its a fake McAfee popup, this can happen when you go to a sketchy site. Try cleaning your browser cache and running Adwcleaner, if this doesn't work others will offer more suggestions.
I'll suggest not running Spyhunter, it will list a myriad of problems with your computer and then ask for money to clean it.
Also if your running Windows 10 why not just use Defender, augment it with Configure Defender and you'll have far better protection then PC Matic IMO.

I agree with the above that it is almost certainly a fake browser popup not an infection.
Its instigators hope that you will click on it. Don't.

    All the best,

Why the need to wait 48 hours ?

Personal opinion, that notice looks like a marketing scam.

Use the McAfee Removal Tool as described by dalchina in post #2 and manually check your registry and folders and delete any remnants. Then due a full scan with Windows Defender and ESET online scanner and Malwarebytes AdwCleaner as mentioned above.

It looks like a push notification. See posts #13 and #14 here.

No, what you have are two pop-up notifications in Chrome that are nothing more than Junk Mail in Snail mail terms.
