    Computer fraud

    HP-Windows version 10
Hello, I am a newbee and I was naive enough to purchase a program for virus removal. DUMB DUMB, DUMB. Anyway the company entered their phone number on my task bar. How do I get rid of this?

I would start with regedit and search for the phone number exactly the way it appears on the task bar and delete those registry keys it appears in. Also, if you right click on the task bar and select taskbar settings, you might be able to find a method to disable it there.

You could try using a recent System Restore point.
And if you wanted to ensure you were free of malware, restore a recently created disk image before this happended.
E.g. Macrium Reflect (free), Aomei Backupper...

If you don't have those methods available to you... well, you should. The second is endlessly recommended here, so well worth exploring.

    Malwarebytes' scanner
If this program is already installed: Skip the installation and run only the scan!
Download and install: Please download Malwarebytes' scanner to your desktop.

    • Double-click mb3-setup-consumer-3.x.x.xxxx and follow the prompts to install the program.
    • Click Finish.
    • On the Dashboard, click the 'Check for Updates' button.
    • After the update completes, click the 'Scan Now' button.
    • A Threat Scan will begin. Please allow it to progress through the scanning process.
    • When the scan is complete, if there have been detections, click Quarantines Selected button to allow the program to clean what was detected.
    • In most cases, a restart will be required.
    • Wait for the prompt to restart the computer to appear, then click on Yes.

How to get logs: (Export log to save as txt)

    • After the restart once you are back at your desktop, open Malwarebytes once more.
    • Click on the Reports tab > Scan Report. (if you have done more than one scan in the past, select the most recent that shows the Date and time of the scan just performed. Press View Report button.
    • Click 'Export'.
    • Click 'Text file (*.txt)'
    • In the Save File dialog box which appears, click on Desktop.
    • In the File name: box type a name for your scan log.
    • A message box named 'File Saved' should appear stating "Your file has been successfully exported".
    • Click Ok
    • Find the log on your Desktop and Attach that saved log to your next reply.

In addition to the advice above, run AdwCleaner.

Was the program an exe.file or is it listed under Programs ?

No program ( I don't think) I research all programs and I don't see anything thaat would lead me to that attachment. I have gone to settings and tried several things but to no avail. I will try some of the other suggestions. I am at work.

I assume you meant the company that owned the program you purchased... entered their phone number on you taskbar.
If that's the case, uninstalling the program, should also remove the phone number.

Most antivirus programs require a removal tool, to completely uninstall them.

You don't know what it was? Name? Download location? You purchased it and then what? Installed it? Or something else.

    Give us a clue.
