Hello, I am a newbee and I was naive enough to purchase a program for virus removal. DUMB DUMB, DUMB. Anyway the company entered their phone number on my task bar. How do I get rid of this?

    Thanks and stop your laughing.

    Which program did you purchase?

Or... what's the phone number you're seeing?

Or... post a screenshot of what you're seeing.

    Quickie screenshot directions.

    1. Use the PrtSc key to take a screenshot.
    2. Open an image editor like "Paint", and click Paste > Paste.
    3. Click on Select > Rectangular Select and drag a box around what you want to show.
    4. Click on Crop.
    5. Click on File > Save as > PNG picture and save it to somewhere like your desktop.
    6. Now, in your Ten Forums post, click on the Insert Image icon.

    7. Then click on.. From Computer > Browse (to where you saved the screenshot) > Upload File(s).

    8. You will then see something like this. That's your "posted" image.

Did the site which sold you the antivirus access your PC &/or ask you to download any tool to assist them with the virus removal?
It would seem unusual to purchase something without there being any download of the AV software. I’m wondering if you’ve been the victim of a scammer.
What made you believe you required the antivirus protection offered? Did you see a pop up in your browser stating you were infected?
I would also recommend running Malwarebytes, I’d recommed you turn on the scan for rootkits option, as well as scanning with AdwCleaner.

    Karen,
I don't see where this was asked, so I will. What is the phone number in your taskbar? We have lots of very good sleuths here and on our sister forum Elevenforum. Perhaps if we knew the phone number, someone here could find some clues and a way out for you. Just a thought.

Download a free app called "Everything" from "Voidtools".....you can then choose which setup you have on your computer....ie:- x64 or x86 etc.
You can then find the path for the phone number, or the name of the Company or person you downloaded this from.

I found the program! Thank you for suggesting the program cleaner. It was listed as an Epson program. I emailed Epson, and they emailed me the process for removing the program from my computer. I could not have accomplished this without your help. THANK YOU ALL

Hopefully the problem will be sorted once the program has been removed.
