    deleting Norton

Norton has been pissing me off lately with all their in my face pop ups. Even though I paid for the program I am getting pop ups and notifications about how I need to buy this or that. I've been a Norton customer for as long as I've had PC's which is like forever, and I've had it. I am closing my Norton account and deleting it from my computers. I have already turned off auto renew and deleted my cc info. I will be installing Bitdefender.

    My question is (finally)
Should I install Bitdefender while Norton is installed. then delete Norton?
or should I delete Norton first, then install Bitdefender?
I am leaning towards deleting Norton first.
    Any thoughts on this?
    Does it matter?
    TIA

You should uninstall (not 'delete') Norton first. Rule of thumb- never run 2 active AVs.

When you have uninstalled Norton, check Windows Defender runs normally before doing more.
(A good number consider Windows Defender is quite good enough, unless there are particular features of a 3rd party tool you need - several threads/discussions refer here)

There is a Norton uninstall tool you may wish to consider as remnants of 3rd party AVs can sometimes cause difficulties.

Definitely use the Norton Uninstall Tool.
Do not install Bitdefender until Norton is completely removed.

Use RevoUninstaller (freeware) ... I don't trust Noton so why should I trust Norton's own branded removal software??

    Run Revo and uninstall
    Do NOT boot if prompted
Then run the Advanced option to remove all leftover files/folders/registry entries

i love that tool and WISEUNINSTALLER also scans for leftover entries and residual folders.

on another note when i had to do an uninstall for ESET NOD32 the only way i could do it was their own downloaded uninstaller.

The classical statement is not to use 3rd party uninstallers for AVs. Has that changed?

That said they are useful tools and I use one routinely when uninstalling.
You would expect the manual tool provided by most AV suppliers to be specifically designed and targeted.

Just to support the existing recommendations, …
    - In 2014, I found that home network transfers of very large files stopped without any error message, they just petered out [no more progress being made]. Small files transferred without any problems. No troubleshooting tools identified any problem.
    - Amongst the dozens of online threads I read whilst searching for a remedy, there were a couple of references to having previously had Norton and a couple of references to the Norton removal tool.
    - I had uninstalled Norton from one of those computers four years earlier. I had never even heard of a Norton removal tool.
    - I ran the Norton removal tool.
    - The problem disappeared and never re-appeared.

    All the best,
    Denis
