how 2 find bitlocker recovery key 4 a usb drive if I know the password

I am in the process of encrypting about a dozen external USB drives ranging in size from 2TB to 14TB. While I know the password it seems that I may have forgotten to save the recovery key on a couple of the drives. Is there a way to recover the key if I insert the USB drive and unlock it with the password? Win 10. Command line ignorant. If there is a way kindly ELI5 (Explain Like I'm Five).

Open an Elevated CMD prompt:

Code:

manage-bde -protectors F: -get

Replace F: for the drive you want to get recovery key.

Thanks. Elevated CMD Prompt is one with admin rights, right? And because I'm ignorant I need to unlock the drive first with the password and then issue the command otherwise anyone could get the recovery key on a locked drive, also right? TIA.
