    help with spam

I hope others have the same luck I did.
I had just reset Windows 11 and started getting bombarded with spam. I got 21 emails the first day. I reached out to my ISP, Comcast, who recommended to use two apps and stick it out for a couple of days. Here are the two apps:
    spam@donotpay.com, and abuse@comcast.net.

Not everyone may have this ISP but perhaps if you reach out to your ISP, they may have a couple of tools if you are having a lot of spam.
After submitting spam to these two apps for two days, I received one today the third day, which is remarkable.
I hope this helps with this annoying problem that comes out of nowhere.

If you know of another way to solve this problem, please let us know.

    @maranna -

The resources that they gave you are of limited value. As a matter of fact, there are many others.

    Some questions:

    1) Who hosts your email?
    2) What email client are you using?
    3) What browser are you using?

If you have a mainstream email client, like Mozilla Thunderbird, for example, there is a nice adaptive Junk filter that can help greatly.
It is not Windows 10 or 11 but I would carefully consider adjusting the security settings within your browser.

Additionally, might I ask what AV and FW you are using? That might help as well.

    Thanks.

I have Comcast. I chose not to utilize their filter as one never goes through it . I cannot afford to lose an email of importance.
I have used their Live mail program and kept it simple with Windows Security and MBAM free.
For twenty years I have not had any more than an occasional PUP and no email issues until this one.
When one is in the middle of a reinstall or reset , the machine is more susceptible to such an incident.
It won't matter now as I have a clean baseline with images in two external drives and only one plugged in, in case of ransomware.
It takes 1:06 to recover to a new image.

Personally, don't see how a Reset and spam are related.

Does Comcast have a user forum where others may have the same issue ?

May be best to consider another email account like Outlook.

I agree but not Outlook. Set the email client for IMAP instead of POP3.

I was saying that after resetting my system, I began to get the spam. I too see no correlation.
I wish I did know what caused it, specifically.
The trouble with emails in forums and otherwise, is that meanings are easily misinterpreted. Or positions are poorly stated; it was the latter in this case.
I reset, I began to get all the spam. I enabled the spam filter and it all goes to the junk folder. In a hundred years it may subside. :)

No problem with your original post, just wanted to address the correlation issue.

Glad you have the problem resolved. But do consider another email provider should the problem return. There are threads here (search function) and start one of your own if you desire.

Moderators like us to mark thread as solved. Should be an icon at bottom of your original post.

I was thinking that during a reset windows firewall and antivirus are not on yet and that’s the time the computer could’ve gotten it. Moving on to the second issue declaring the thread solved. At the end of the thread I see a curly arrow, a box with a tail a second box to its right. Which do I click so I say I solved this thread without hitting the wrong one?

Should be 3 blocks at bottom like below. If not there, maybe procuedure has been discontinued ?

Mine says Unsolved because I marked it Solved and have option to change.

    >>Thank you for your help. I'm typing because the thread tells me that my message is too short when I say thank you so I'll just keep on saying thank you until it approves.
