Unable to delete old BitLocker recovery keys

My windows version number is: 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1706).

This problem is more related to OneDrive than Windows itself, but I'm not sure where else to post the question. The Windows community forums are worthless.

I recently setup BitLocker on my PC and backed up the recovery key to OneDrive (https://onedrive.live.com/RecoveryKey) to access recovery keys backed up this way). The first time I tried to setup BitLocker I ended up cancelling the process because there were some settings I was not sure about. Consequently there is an extra recovery key stored on my OneDrive account that I would like to delete because it doesn't correspond to any actual drive protected by BitLocker. In theory you can delete recovery keys by logging in to the URL I posted above and clicking "Delete" next to the recovery key you want to delete.

The problem I am having is that when I click the delete link next to the extra key, I get a popup window that says "Deleting this recovery key now..." with the spinning "loading" circular animation, but the window never goes away and the key is never deleted. I have let the window sit in its current state for 30 minutes and nothing has changed. I have tried this using Firefox, Edge, and Chrome and see the same behavior on each one. Ad blockers are disabled for this website. Has anyone else experienced this and/or have any ideas regarding how to fix it?

    Hello,

The tutorial below can help show you how to delete old unneeded BitLocker recovery keys from your OneDrive.

Usually, you will have a confirmation window to approve the deletion that may be causing the spinning while waiting for you to confirm. Possible the confirmation prompt may be behind another window.

It still doesn't seem to be working. Here is the first screen I see:

If I click the "Delete" link next to one of the keys, I then see this screen:

If I then check the "I've saved a copy of this recovery key" box and click "Delete", I see this popup window indefinitely:

I can see the original window behind it (screen one above), but the popup window isn't movable. What is going on here?

Log out, give it a few minutes, log back in and see if the keys are gone.

No luck unfortunately. When I log back in all keys are still listed.

I still have some old keys showing under my account and tried to delete them and have the same issue. Seems to be a Microsoft server issue.

For me, not really worth the aggravation of chasing it down, but just wanted to say I have the same issue. Anyway, I have an appointment so I really can't dig any deeper at the moment.

That said, you may have to call Microsoft if it's really that important to you.

    Good luck.

    @Citizen Snips,

This might be of interest: Can't delete bitlocker recovery keys from microsoft account. According to some there Microsoft is aware and said to be working on it. So it's not just you (or me).

Thanks for the update. I figured it must be something on their end.

It seems to be working correctly now. It must have been something on Microsoft's end.
