What is the best package out there for Windows 10?
    Stuart,

    Windows Defender, the built-in one.
[I should use the new name Windows Security really].

The third-party offerings are only worthwhile if you happen to need the additional facilities they provide [such as the VPN facility you've seen mentioned in earlier posts].
The level of malware protection provided by Windows Defender is as good as anybody else's; it really is just their extra facilities that distinguish the third-party ones.
See www.avtest.org for comparations of protection level.

About five years ago, I worked my way round trying these for about a month or more each - Bitdefender, Kaspersky, McAfee, Norton. I never found a single reason to keep any of them.

    All the best,
    Denis

well, there is no "best" concerning Security for private use.

atm, I use 360° for free, and it's fitting for me. there are enough tools on Major Geeks to overwatch your own computer.

So...it's a kinda taste of your own, what kinda security u install on your private machine. ^-^

None! Just use Defender and save your money.
One good reason to have an additional only-on-demand-scanner is for a 2nd opinion. I don't believe any one product is 100% heuristic or "knows" 100% of everything out there.

(I posted this problem on MS Answers, no good fix yet) It means after a certain update from Windows, I forget which one. Microsoft demands basically that Windows Defender will continue to run along with any other 3rd party software.

Now before I did a reset of the system in March, Trend Micro showed as the primary anti-virus in windows security. But after a certain Windows update it had trouble being recognized as the primary anti-virus.

Then after resetting my PC, When I did Updates, and installed Trend Micro, It mentioned that it would run along with defender with no problems, but I might have remembered Trend Micro pop up giving me the option to completely turn off WD. I`ll know more when I do another Reset of my PC.
