Serious over the top pestering by McAfee

I am being severely pestered by McAfee, endlessly displaying unwanted popup adverts purporting to have detected numerous viruses and malware on my phone. I wont go into details about the scare mongering tactics used in around a half dozen different pop-ups, one of which nearly covers the whole screen, but it is the worst experience of its kind I have had. How do I stop it? I have installed the AdBlock Plus extension but it has not worked.

Then remove it. I am guessing that you have a Android device and read too much into the FUD that some companies out there try to push. ESET is the best that I have found for Android. AdBlock does not block notifications on the device, it is just for the web browser to keep stuff from taking over the page.

You don't say what browser you're using, but I'm betting it's a random website that has access to notifications. See if this thread helps:Continually being hit with Popups

It is on their phone. Android devices are common to get tons of ad pop-ups from the garbage apps people load up on them.

Nope, the problem is not on my Phone (so far) it is only my Windows 10 PC 64bit Home, just reset (by a professional). It is getting worse by the hour, eg. a new popup appears right after the previous one is deleted.

Can you not remove McAfee from your computer? I think there are tutorials on this site to help with that, and there is this reference for removal: https://service.mcafee.com/?articleI...l=article-view.

Personally I use only Windows Security, which works well for me.

    Hi,

You are victim of a web push or fake notification scam baiting.

Delete browsing history and cache in MS Edge Chromium and restart the browser.

You should delete the Browsing history
    Download history
    Cached images & files

    Press [CTRL+SHIFT+DEL]

    Hello, Clayto.

Initially you indicated that it was on your phone. Then clarified that it was on your PC.

Do you have McAFee installed as your AV?

Just as a suggestion, DL and run Malwarebytes Free. A good little tool for periotic scans.

    Malwarebytes Free

In addition, You might also want to DL and run Malwarebytes AdwCleaner.

    Malwarebytes AdwCleaner

Lastly, if you paid the "Professional", you might consider phoning them, and advising of the recent frustrating situation.

    I wish you the best.

Edited to add... You may also be interested in running ESET Free Online Scan.

    @clayto -

Here's what I would do, aside from the above suggestions:

    1. Cleanly uninstall McAfee from your system with the MPCR tool.-> https://service.mcafee.com/?articleI...l=article-view
    2. Use CCleaner portable to delete leftover Registry Entries. -> Builds
    3. Clear your browser caches - all of them - every element within History for each browser. BTW - CCleaner can also be used on the Custom Clean setting to do this. (default settings, only.)
    4. Delete everything in AppData -> Local -> Temp .(This is generally a hidden file - so under File Explorer - "Show Hidden files.") Then recheck it to hide the folder again.
    5. Download MBAM and conduct a full scan with Rootkits Enabled in the Setting window. Let it Quarantine all detections. Don't delete the entries, if any, until you are sure that all is OK.

    Reboot and test!

    HTH.
