Thank you, @Compumind for the headsup... I think it's a shame but understandable that a long-respected AV company now finds itself guilty by association, probably only because it's headquartered in Moscow.

No need to say more - this is a tech forum, not a place for politics.

It is not just the FCC. German and Hungarian authories are now recommending uninstalling Kaspersky immediately.

I find it sad, as I considered it to be the best for over 20 years (efficiency/system-usage-wise). But, the recommendation is completely understandable given the circumstances, and I am uninstalling it.

    It's hard to establish trust...

We live in a world where there are so many talented people!
Unfortunately, certain countries do not follow democratic principles - yet they have great technologies.

Everyone needs to think very carefully about software. There are people all over the world meaning to do good - and bad.

Either way, it is a hard decision as to whom to follow and accept. Do your due diligence to the best of your ability.
Make frequent backups and protect yourself as best as you can.

In the end, trust your instincts.

    Enough said.

I agree with everything you have written in this post, and commend you for your sound wisdom.

I must say, however, for those reading (as an American), I will never trust a damn thing the current administration is putting forth. Propaganda comes in all forms.

...say one thing this minute, an hour later, walk it back. As Conpumind so righty wrote... trust your own instincts.

Unfortunately, at the moment, mine do not coincide with the current American administration.

Indeed. One can never put much trust in politicians, no matter their sign or party.

Actually, if you ever wanted a private AV, this is the time to use Kaspersky, that is, if you live in EU/US.
Thus the reason I use mail.ru as my primary email, because it is private from ISP and from 14 eyes.

Unless/until substantial governmental changes occur in those countries, I will never trust software produced by Russian and Chinese companies.
