Kaspersky Security
I use Kaspersky Total Security 2021 as does my daughter. Due to current situation in Moscow, is there any danger that Putin will use Kaspersky to 'nuke' computers?

Hello elbmek,
Depends on who your ask ........... Germany's BSI warns against Kaspersky AV over spying concerns | CSO Online
I'm not willing to take the chance using it.
Windows Defender works fine for me, and most others, from what I've read.
Once a Norton user, but when they killed off Norton Internet Security, it became way to bloated and commercialized for me.
I ditched it, for Windows Security and Malwarebytes Premium, and never skipped a beat.
I can't speak directly to Kaspersky, as I've never used it. But it seems there are varying views on the subject...
Is It Safe To Continue Using Kaspersky Products ?
Hello @elbmek,
As mentioned, it really depends on who use ask and the Websites that you visit is search for more information in relation to this.
Thinking ahead, and if you do decide to change your security approach, I would assume thatKaspersky
has an uninstall option, which if it does, would probably be best performedOffline

AS far as a replacementAntivirus / Security
is concerned, this is obviously a matter of personal choice.
Microsoft Defender
[ formerly Windows defender ] has come a LONG way over the past few years and is VERY good. I also understand thatMalwarebytes
is VERY complimentary with it.
I hope this helps.
They don't want to spy on you and will not want to kill off a profit making product by nuking your computer.
Depending on how you paid for Kaspersky software, you might find it no longer working due to non-payment. With bank sanctions in effect, not sure how anyone outside of Russia can actually pay for Kaspersky now.
But the above assumes that Kaspersky is still in control of its destiny. Right now, it seems that Russia is rapidly evolving into a Stalinist-type oppressive dictatorship. It's not hard to imagine that the police raid Kaspersky's offices on some trumped up charges of "corruption," and seizing computers with customer lists.

Me, if I had Kaspersky software on my system, I would uninstall it right now, and get some alternative, either MS Defender or a commercial alternative. PC Magazine just did a roundup of security products and rated Norton as the best overall.
