    Is It Safe To Continue Using Kaspersky Products ?

    With the situation in Ukraine I am wondering if it is safe to continue Kaspersky products whose Head office is in Moscow.
    I use Kaspersky on my Windows 7 machines and I am aware of the general security issues regarding Windows 7. I have no email accounts or passwords on the machines and don't use the machines for online banking or shopping etc.

    I have found "Kaspersky Security Cloud Free" to be a good product, low on resources etc but am unsure whether I should switch antivirus. If I did switch I would want a simple antivirus and am welcome to suggestions.

    On my Windows 10 machines I continue to use Defender.

    It is impossible for anybody to know the answer.

    Windows Security is just as good an anti-malware application anyway so you'll lose no protection by switching to Defender-only [I assume you'll be upgrading to Windows 10 at some stage].
    - Third-party anti-malware utilities are only justifiable by the extra facilities they provide and not by any difference in their level of protection because there is no difference.

    @mike888 -

    This has really nothing to do with Russia, Ukraine and the like.

    It's a question of ethics!

    Kaspersky has some great technical know-how yet has it's own negative karma, so to speak. I don't use or trust it.

    The best thing that you can really do is upgrade your remaining but unsupported Windows 7 systems to Windows 10 and use Windows Defender (and firewall) on it.

    There is quite a bit of software talent in the world.

    OK, comrade?

    I regard choosing any Russian software like Kaspersky products a bold decision. It's best to let the NSA spy on you by choosing US products.

    Indeed. I think it's imperative to update w7 to w10 first. But backup everything before doing that.

    For Win 7, there are many Third-Party Utilities/Software available. Of course, it depends on whether you want to use FREE or PAID, obviously the latter having slightly more confidence for users.

    It really depends on what you are using Win 7 for. If you are using it as a main computer, then you would want a trusted and recommended software.

    Regardless, it is always recommended here to create a regular System Image.

    Is there ANY reason that you do NOT want to upgrade [ FREE ] it to Win 10?

    If you upgraded to Win 10, you could then use Microsoft Defender [ formerly Windows defender ]. I also understand that Malwarebytes is VERY complimentary with it.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks for your comments.

    My four Windows 7 machines are incapable of running Windows 10. They can only accept up to 2GB Ram and even then they are slow in operation, even on 7.

    My Windows 10 machines have Defender apart from one that has the Kaspersky product. All the machines with Kaspersky are not used for shopping,banking , emailing etc just browsing the web and working with some music and image files.
    On the rare occasion that I need to use a USB stick I am careful in how I use them.

    @mike888
    are you attempting to impose sanctions on Russia by removing Kaspersky products from your PC?

    joke aside lol, unless you're a spy or working for government I see no reason why you should be worried.

    Interesting, while I'n not American nor Russian, If i had to choose who is going to spy on me I would choose it to be foreign country rather than my own country, simply because foreigeiners have no power to do anything about me in my own country.

    You can still download Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows 7 from Microsoft. It uses the same scan engine and definitions as Windows 10's Defender.

    https://www.microsoft.com/download/details.aspx?id=5201

    MSE will be supported for engine and definition updates until January 2023.
